With the upcoming demise of critical API's that have supported Entourage for years, I have been looking far and wide for a solution to calendar and reminder functions that enables me to control snoozing. I like to set a date for, say, a quarterly tax payment and then get an advance reminder which I can then "snooze" on--getting prodded on it from time to time--until it is actually due.

It appears to me that SnoozeMaster, integrating with Apple's own Calendar and Reminders apps will fit the bill. Not perfect but better than any other combination I can find. So far the app has been stable and because its function is inherently simple it is very easy to use. Just make sure that the Notifications are set to "None" for Calendars and Reminders or things will get confusing.

I'd love to love this app, as its purpose in life is to fix a huge deficiency in Mountain Lion. Unfortunately, it's freezing up too frequently to be usable for me - about one in every ten alert popups gives me a spinning beachball when I mouse over the snooze button (MacBook running 10.8.3). As it's a background app, I can only get out of the crash by going into Activity Monitor, locating the process and force-quitting.

Three stars in the earnest hope a more stable version will be released soon.

Though I still enjoy this app, I have been running while continuing to use Entouage's reminders component. On two occasions after updating Mavericks in early November the app has failed to give me notifications. Cure is to kill and restart the app. I have killed Entourage but I do have a failsafe technique that reminds to check on Snoozemaster status every day. Since 10.9.1 I have had not failures. So, fingers crossed!

Apple restored snoozable alarms with Mavericks. Just click and hold on "Snooze" in the notification popup to get a list of options.

SnoozeMaster has some extra customization options for snoozes so may still be worth getting - if it's stable and reliable.

This tiny and cheap app completes Calendar. When Apple messed up the notifications side of Calendar I very nearly went over to BusyCal - then I read a forum post which mentioned SnoozeMaster. It elegantly fixes the "improvements" made to Calendar in Mountain Lion and improves on it in the same breath. Strongly recommended!

SnoozeMaster features include:
  • A user definable snooze list.
  • On-the-fly setting of the snooze duration.
  • View button to open up the event in the Calendar or Reminders apps.
You can snooze:
  • from now
  • before event start
  • before event end
  • after event start
  • after event end
The duration can be:
  • Minutes
  • Hours
  • Days
Note: We recommend that you go into the "System Preferences" -> Notification -> "Calendar" and "Reminders" and set the "Calendar alert style" and "Reminders alert style" to "None". This will prevent the default pop-up from appearing.

Important: There are some types of events that we are unable to modify as we do not have "permissions" to edit them. This may include appointments such as ones sent to you as an ".ics" file from an email. You are not the "owner" of this type of appointment and you may not be able to use SnoozeMaster to edit it. In those cases, you will have to launch the Calendar app and manually set it in the Calendar app to be reminded again.

SnoozeMaster cannot snooze calendars that are "Delegates", as the Apple system programming interface does not allow us to work with Delegate calendars. We recommend that if you are using Delegate calendars, that you change them to regular calendars instead.
