This is an amazingly solid video downloader, especially for a free offering.

The user interface may be mediocre (Java-esque) and it's missing an obvious/small feature (automatically naming the video you're downloading), but it's very reliable with Vimeo and YouTube, even for Vevo's videos...

From now on, I vow not to buy or use any software whose developer won’t include ‘What’s New’ info for updates on its MacUpdate page. It’s just so lazy and inconsiderate.

FYI, a large majority of the listings on MacUpdate are NOT maintained or owned by the developers of an app. MacUpdate is an independent third-party directory that has no official connection with most of the apps you see here. It is the responsibility of MacUpdate staff to make sure these listings are accurate and as complete and informative as possible.

Too many people think that MacUpdate is some kind of formal or official channel for app info. It's not. There are many apps on this site where the developer doesn't even know there is a listing. There are also many instances where there is inadequate or incorrect info on MacUpdate, but full and accurate info on the developer's web site.

In this case, it does in fact seem that the developer has not provided a public changelog for their app, so my suggestion is to email them at support@clipgrab.org, or tweet them at https://twitter.com/clipgrab, and inquire as to why.

This program was able to download other than YouTube videos but the download speed is very slow. It took 30+ minutes to downland a 40 minute video. Hopefully, the developer cans speed up the downloads......

The description lists compatibility with several websites, but it only downloads YouTube video. The search function lists a maximum of only eight hits. Didn't try pasting in a YouTube URL to get past the limited search capability.

It's often the case that with apps like these, especially the no-hassle, app handles everything for the user, functionality for individual sites will break whenever the video hosting site changes even a small aspect about their webpage or how videos are delivered.

Best bet is to either hold tight for the next update or contact the developer and let them know as you will get a much quicker response from the developer, who probably did not know the app was having problems and most likely doesn't visit macupdate to get feedback/error reports from their users.

All in all though, it's a free app so if it works at all it's a bonus but I have a feeling the developer(s) take pride in their work and making sure the app lives up to it's claimed capability. Never used the app but an update is always promising.

All well and good, except that my attempt to use this app was on the very day of a version release. My review stands.

INMHO, this is one of the best FREE video downloaders with FREE video conversion.
