If you are comfortable with Terminal, you can pretty much eject anything using: drutil eject or drutil eject external if it's an external DVD drive. Further info: man drutil

Unfortunately doesn't eject all drives when connected via firewire target mode. It would also be nice to have drive open also when empty. Except for that, it did eject a stuck disc once that wasn't acknowledged, saving med having to reboot with mouse pressed. So does what you can ask I think.

Download link leads to the App Store, where $0.99 is charged for this program. It is not free. There is no mention of this program on the developer's website.

Seriously? I hate to be rude, but with things already being covered by others herein... well, it isn't any better than DiscEject. In fact, in one way it is worse. DiscEject is available by direct download for those sick of the so-called AppStore... which is overload with nonsense like this and requires the invasive bloatware known as iTunes. Both DE and FE have the same problems with discs under the same conditions. You get minimal stars for this copycat nonsense and then forcing me to use iTunes and the AppStore just to see if yours works any better. And it didn't; it was the same.

This is just a clone of DiscEject with a useless GUI... even the updates are similar (ForceEject 1.1 = DiscEject 1.3). Maybe it would be a better investment of time if you focused on creating something new.

Tested with a DVD in use by VLC: My empty external drive opened; the icon in Finder vanished, but the DVD didn't eject. ForceEject didn't even try to kill the blocking process or at least report it so I can decide. But DiskEject didn't succeed either. Of course it's obvious to close VLC in this test. But what if I don't know why the disk is stuck?

Uh..., someone thinks their firewire connection gets mechanically ejected? Works on a MPBP running 10.6.8.

Works great for me, though I was expecting it to be a bit faster. All disc drive trays pop open, returning my disc. Thank you.

It doesn't work. I tried to use FE and after it says: "DONE", I plugged out my FireWire external device. Suddenly I got an error message that I improperly unplugged my external HD!
