What's New
Version 1.1:

Note: when you first upgrade to this version, your database will require rebuilding.

New Features
  • Allows searching by Apple Mail accounts, mailboxes, and folders.
  • Negated searches allow finding items that do not contain a particular selector (e.g., word, contact, etc).
You can negate a search term by typing an exclamation mark before you type the term (eg: "!pluto" searches for all emails that do not contain the word "pluto"). When the completion list is shown, you can insert a negated completion bubble by holding down the Option/Alt key as you select a completion. You can also negate an already inserted bubble via its contextual menu.
  • Can search for emails in trash folders using a "Trashed Emails" selector.
  • Added "Email" menu to the main menu bar with some convenient commands like Reply and Forward.
Highlighted Changes
  • Added: results listing shows Apple Mail account and enclosing mailbox.
  • Added: user can change which table columns are shown in the results list.
  • Opt: responds quicker when typing text into search fields, as completions are generated in the background.
Important Fixes
  • Fixed: changed the way data is stored on disk to avoid creating very large files which could lead to crashes.
  • Fixed: if Apple's HTML decoder hangs/crashes, InfoClick should restart the external decoder and try again.
  • Fixed: emails with exotic characters or improperly noted text encodings could import/index incorrectly.
Other Changes
  • Changed: when rebuilding a database entirely InfoClick should prevent the computer from idle sleep so that the rebuild can continue overnight. Normal scans (i.e., incremental updates) do not prevent sleeping.
  • Fixed: running sandboxed on OSX 10.8.2 can fail to open emails in Apple Mail after the Mac restarts.
  • Changed: moved the "Clear Search" button and results count to the top of the query area.
  • Changed: better choices for sub-sorting the results list (eg: sorting by item kind should sub-sort by subject).
  • Changed: the operators (NOT, OR, etc) shown in search bubbles are colored yellow to help them stand out.
  • Changed: the "Text" search field should also search parts of URLs found in text content/subject.
  • Fixed: URLs should be detected in the email subject, not just the body text.
  • Fixed: display order for the item type list (eg: email, junk email, note, etc) was wrong.
  • Fixed: notes: should index notes after indexing emails, in case the notes contain links using message ids.
  • Fixed: ugly flickering in the completion list possible when choosing alternatives from an "OR" style list.
  • Fixed: if the bottom of any completion list would be displayed off screen, its height should be decreased.
  • Fixed: notes: if InfoClick notes have a cycle of links between one another, can cause a crash when indexing.

Best solution I've found so far for predictable and reliable search in Apple Mail. For reasons unknown to me Apple's own indexing via Spotlight never worked in a consistent way for me (sometimes stuff isn't found although it's there etc.).
InfoClick just works, thank you NIsus!!

After searching in Mail.app for an email I knew existed, I finally looked for a better solution. What good timing, as InfoClick just came out. It took around 10 hours to index my 600k+ emails, but once it was done, I was quickly able to find the stray email that eluded Mail.app's search.

So far, I'm very pleased. InfoClick is a nice, clean app that does one thing well and is priced perfectly which is exactly what I look for in an app.

I always thought search in Mail was pretty good. Use InfoClick for a few days and you'll quickly be pulling out your credit card. Well worth the money. Incidentally, I purchased it yesterday, and the price was $12, not $15. I wish I didn't have to have it always running for it to do its indexing, but that's just me.

I have used this for several weeks while in beta and I have found it to be the best way to find email. Your search can be narrowed in so many ways and as you add characters to the search box suggestions instantly appear. I like how the email content is shown within InfoClick so Iā€™m not switching back and forth between apps. Excellent tool!

I have been using it for a few days, as soon as I received the mailing from Nisus regarding the release.

It is too early for rating it, but I do already tend to use it for any search that is not a simple one: i.e. I have been using iut a few times every daysince I installed it. It proves quite useful for narrowing a search: for instance, when looking for a specific mail from somebody with whom there has been a lot of correspondence.

The way it sugests possible matching words/names/addresses as soon as one starts typing is also working quite well.

The indexing of the mail database (in my case more than 60,000 messages) took less long than initially announced on the progress bar (it said it would last one hour, but it took probably half that time.

It is important to knpw that it works only for Apple Mail: it won't index messages found in other mail clients.

InfoClick knows precisely what words you've used, so there's no guessing; it offers a guided process of progressively narrowing down the matches in a series of simple choices. That means you can't ever produce a search with zero matches. For example, when you're searching for all emails containing a particular word, InfoClick would show the completions "connection", "connexion", and (the misspelled) "connecsion", if you'd actually used those words in your emails.

InfoClick offers additional features to make searching your emails easier. To see all emails received from educational organizations in the US, simply type .edu in the From field. With a single click, you can narrow-down your search to only those emails that had an attachment, and/or those received in a given date range, and/or those that contain specific words. You can choose, as alternatives, all displayed word spellings used in the emails, so you don't miss an email because of spelling errors.

InfoClick also offers a note editor, allowing you to collect and organize links to emails, files, Web pages, and other URLs (notes are completely searchable).
