Power64 is an emulation program that allows you to run Commodore 64 programs with full color and sound.
What's New
Version 4.9.5:
  • The fonts in the directory and debugger window are now scalable, to accomodate high-res screens, where 9-point Monaco is simply to hard to read.
  • Added Support for Gamepads
  • Minor Bugfix for Joystick Support in MacOS 10.4.9
  • Improved Mouse Handling for Amica Paint
  • Improved Timing for Barbarian
  • Sound Output is broken on some Macs. This used to cause extremly fast emulation in Power64. While the root cause of this bug is still not understood, Power64 now detects the problem and safely falls back to mute emulation.
  • Power64 sometime had trouble mounting disks via Drag&Drop. This bug has been fixed.
  • Power64 no longer crashes when drawing screens in black/white mode.
  • Lots of links in the documentation have been updated/fixed.

Too bad Power64 is still ONLY a PPC Binary.

If you are looking for a FREE Open Source C64 Emulator that provides both Intel and PPC binaries, try VICE. (VICE also emulates PETs, VIC-20s etc).

Power64 is still more user friendly in my view. But it has two big drawbacks. It is expensive and only provides a PPC binary.

Oh, come on. $25 is not expensive! I agree on the PPC thing, though. It would be great to have an Intel version.

Overall, still a pretty solid emulator, even in 10.6.7 on an Intel MacBook Pro. It does have a habit of shutting down poorly; it tends to crash instead of shutting down.

Also of note: this page lists it as a $25 shareware product. The price is currently $32.

This, along with Power20, are the finest examples of Shareware EVER. I registered both after about 10 minutes of trying different game files-- every one worked! Worth every penny. I own literally hundreds of C64 and Vic20 games and these pieces of software run them all. I can't tell you how much this brings me back to the days of old. A++ for the developer. I really can't say enough good things about it!

Any chance for an Intel version for my new MacBook Pro?

FWIW, the developer's site says: "Power64 is optimised for PowerPC-Macs, but will work fine on Intel-Macs too."

The best C64 emulator I found for OS X. I finally retired my breadbox C64 after the 1541 quit reading disks correctly and the power adapter came loose; this is a good enough replacement. After a few days contemplating emulation vs. the real thing I finally paid $25 to register Power64.

I give it a four on features though because there's no ability to get it on-line like with a Windows emulator I used and there's also no universal binary yet. Other than that perfect.

I really like that piece of software. After switching from PC to Mac this was the first software I bought for my Mac.

The SID-emulation is not so good than in other emulators. The filters sound squeaky so I understand why they're disabled by default.

Maybe the developers could include an option to use SidplayX for the sound with loosing latency.

Simply the best on the Mac. Look no further, worth the price! Lifetime updates, that is correct. Thank you again Roland!

Could be the top if they could add support to Kaillera for online playing, like CCS64 for Win. Quite good though
