Monotony is a very simple feed reader. It does exactly one job: you subscribe to RSS and Atom feeds, Monotony checks for news every minute. News are displayed on the desktop as notifications, featuring the headline and a summary (if there’s one). To read a news item in your default web browser, just click on the notification.

There is nothing else. No Google Reader sync, no frontend, no possibility to customize it. Monotony runs as a menubar app or, if you choose, invisible in the background. That’s all. Monotony has been designed to blend with Growl, the desktop

Monotony gives the opportunity to have a closer look at (only) those news items which really draw your attention while passing by. Lightweight efficiency or 'Simple is beautiful'.

Seems i was a bit to enthousiast to early. Compared to Google Reader with the same feeds as in Monotony, the app doesn't show all items visible in Google Reader were e.g. Reader Notifier does.

Well it takes a day but it does show in Notifications the essential headlines of the feeds. It does exactly what it says and I will give this app 5Stars for its features!

Well I have installed about 35 feeds and I have yet to see a single one materialize. I do get notifications that the feed (each and every one have been subscribed but so far absolutely nonoticesof feeds other than the fact that I have been subscribed.
