iTrash overview

iTrash by Circus Ponies moves your trash can to the desktop.

Have you noticed how the trash can is never in the same place twice? That's because it shifts around as your dock grows and shrinks. Put an end to one of the Mac's most annoying problems with iTrash. iTrash lets you position your Mac's trash can anywhere on your desktop, and keep it there. With the trash in one place, you can rely on muscle memory to drag files to the trash.

iTrash Puts You in Charge of Your Computer's Trash

Fed up with the Finder telling you it won't throw something away? Override it with iTrash's Force Empty command and delete those items for good. Need to throw away sensitive documents that you don't want recoverable? Use iTrash's Secure Empty feature to overwrite them on your disk so that they cannot be restored. You can even tell iTrash to automatically remove files and folders that have been in the trash too long.

iTrash Not Only Gives You More Control - It Lets You Personalize The Trash Can

iTrash isn't just a better trash can. Choose a standard trash can or, if you want the coolest trash around, choose any of over 20 animated iTrash characters that make sounds or even talk to you whenever you throw something away or empty the trash. Buy iTrash now.

Quote

With iTrash I don't have to hunt for the trash can when I need to throw something away. And it lets me customize my Mac's desktop the way I want, instead of settling for how someone else wants it to look.

iTrash Features

  • Place the trash anywhere on your desktop
  • Float the trash above or below document windows
  • Set the trash's appearance from any of more than 20 animated characters
  • Choose Secure Empty to help prevent recovery of sensitive documents
  • Use Force Empty to override the Finder when it declares it won't empty the trash
  • Enable Auto Empty to periodically remove items that have been in the trash too long
  • Eject drives and .dmgs from a handy menu that lists them all

@developer: Sure this app does different things that iTrash, but why "trash" the name of a great uninstaller. Next time you create a new app you should call it "Excel by Circus Ponies" and see how long till a boatload of lawyers contacts you.

iTrash works well only when deliting files. But when I try to dismount DMG-files or disks it freezes for a long time.

In response to Circus Ponies Software's replies to other comments about the name confusion, it's only unfortunate because you didn't do your homework. Good developers don't try to piggyback on the success of another company's product by stealing names even if the software performs different functions. I expect better from you, Circus Ponies. We all expect better from you. You generally develop solid products that can stand on their own. What happened?

No trial, no buy! 'Delete Now' is doing the same without a nice icon you can drag around. And it is free too. About same name as the uninstall tool iTrash: I removed this 'new' Itrash tool with iTrash. :-)

I agree. Stealing another applications name and putting a trademark on it is sleazy marketing practices to say the least. On top this app is crap. Why would we need another trashcan on our desktop?

Realizing the redundancy of this missive: I, too, find using another developer's app name for this new app utterly confusing (in fact, in the MacUpdate stream, I get the original iTrash icon displayed in the MU menu, alerting me there is an update to my iTrash app -- even though there isn't). Shame on Circus Ponies for staling another dev's app name. I hope OSX Bytes (the makers of the real iTrash app) can file a "cease and desist" notice.

How is this app useful? It just adds clutter to the Desktop. I don't have any trouble finding my Dock's trashcan, which is supposedly this app's claim to usefulness. How many times a week do you go inspect the Trash anyway? Once? Twice? To move stuff to the Trash I just highlight the file, right-click, the select "Move to Trash" and it's gone. Not to mention the ripoff of another dev's good name.

I won't rate it since I can't demo it. I agree with the poor choice of a name, but that does not mean that the application is a poor application. For a while I used DragThing's Trash. Probably the best trash replacement I've used is part of WorkStrip (one of my favorite Mac applications) but that one does not run on Lion. Bin-it is an alternative but it is no longer being developed. The developer very graciously offers a complimentary license key. I wanted to compare it with iTrash. Some features I enjoy from Bin-it include the displaying for number of items as well as size. The Trash icons themselves also show the level of trash they contain. Without a demo for iTrash, I'll keep on using Bin-it. Too bad it is no longer being developed.

I'm sorry, but there's already an iTrash which has been out for years. It does a fine job of finding and deleting those files created by and associated with an app that the user is trying to remove. The developer's web site is OSXbytes.com. Circus Ponies should rename their app to avoid confusion.

Using the same name of the popular uninstaller app iTrash, which uses that name for years, only confuses people. Just for being lazy dev who has trouble finding a original apps name .. you are awarded 1 star rating.
