ARA archive utility.

Overview

Archivaldo is the free file archiver for the rest of us, where you can add, compress, extract, delete, password protect & fast search all your files in a compact binary file system called ARA (Archivaldo Resource Archive). The ARA file is a file system with the capacity to accommodate theoretically unlimited numbers of files, of any size or type (jpg, gif, avi, mpg, ogg, mov, txt, mp3, mp3, acc, doc, iso, etc.) only limited by the free space available in your hard disk or storage device. Also, you can add or remove files from your Archivaldo archive at any time, Archivaldo will contract or expand dynamically the archive depending on your needs.

Note: While the software is classified as free, it is actually donationware. Please consider making a donation to help support development.

Archives are no smaller than a ZIP file and in a unique format. Can't pack many kinds of files such as applications. There is no way to select multiple, individual files in the awkwardly named "Pack" dialog. Shift-click dose work for selecting a range of files--albeit skipping over all the files that apparently can't be archived.

Hmm, I wonder why messing around with exotic and proprietary archive formats that no one else can open? Thanks for the offer, but I prefer to stick with the ZIP format, which is built right into the system.

If the app is better, i.e. offers better compression at the same speed, and is reliable—why not? the problem lies elsewhere: it seems to be a mac-only app, this means others, if not mac users, cannot make use of it.

Thank for trying and review my App, all your opinions are welcome and appreciated to improve Archivaldo in future releases. Some clarifications: - Effectively you can not select App bundles (actually they are directories) or directories but im working on that, - You can select individual files in the Pack dialog, pressing the command key and selecting the files you want to add to the archive. - Some advantage above other packing utilities, you can add or remove files from the archive freely, the archive will resize dinamically, there are no size limit of the archive or the number of files packed, very fast search algorithm (for searching through thousands of files), included password protection, and foremost ITS FREE !!! I will release this proyect in the GPL format, and this will allow to another developers to contribute and make version for other operating systems. Thank again for your opinions Mario.-

Thanks for your continuing work. The command-select function in the 'Pack' dialog does not work for me. I do have Default Folder installed--without which I cannot live--so there may be an incompatibility...
