Selectively hide menubar icons.

Overview

Broomstick is the easiest way to hide menubar icons that you don't like. While most apps that create a menubar icon allow you to hide it, some apps don't provide this option. Broomstick lets you take back control of your menubar, by letting you hide these offending icons! Additionally, Broomstick lets you control the order of icons in your menubar.

Broomstick can currently hide the following apps: Air Video Server, Avira, BetterTouchTool, Boom, CPU Speed Accelerator, Caffeine, Chronicle Mini, ChronoSync, Click.to, CloudApp, CrashPlan, Dimmer, DropCopy, Dropbox, Droplr, Evernote, Flutter, Flux, FullControlHelper, Garmin ANT Agent, Google Drive, GrabBox, GrabBox2, Growl, GrowlTunes, Hiss, Insync, Kuvva, Last.fm, LogMeIn, LogMeIn Hamachi, Memeo Backup, MiddleClick, MuteCon, NoSleepHelper, Nocturne, OpenDNS Updater, PleaseSleep, PuntoSwitcher, Quiet Read, RemotelessHelper, Seamless, SnagIt, Splashtop Streamer, Spotlight, ToDoHelper, Wakoopa Tracker, Wallpaper Clocks, iTeleport Connect.

If you would like to request another app be able to be hidden, then this can be done from within Broomstick.

What's new in Broomstick

Version 0.91:
  • Updates to be compatible with new Flux and Dropbox updates. It seems that on some systems Broomstick takes a long time to un-hide the Dropbox icon, but if you give it enough time (2-3 mins), it gets there eventually.

Requirements for Broomstick

  • Intel 64
  • Intel 32
  • Mac OS X 10.6.8 or later

Hey, this is a neat little app! Very small footprint, and rapid! I'm hoping they'll add more apps that clog up the menu bar soon, but am very happy with the results I've seen so far. Many thanks to this developer!

i don't know if the dev abandoned this app or what, but i decided to give this a shot for personal reasons. while it does do its job, it's pretty shoddy with some apps i've tested it on. here's LogMeIn Hamachi's Menubar Icon being "hidden". har har. http://imgur.com/qm8XeCV then again, this is in El Capitan. The app may have been abandoned altogether anyway, who knows?

On Mavericks, Broomstick seems to still work, but its script (the Menubar Icon Orderer) doesn't seem to launch on startup, so that I have to manually do from within Broomstick. Am I the only one, or is an update needed? If the first, how do I fix this problem?

On his website, the developer has a long list of app icons Broomstick will hide, but (for me, anyway) it would not hide Google Drive. Also (though not sure if this was directly related or not), when I uninstalled Broomstick and rebooted, my menu bar was empty except for the system icons. I rebooted again and everything was fine. This particular iMac is only four days old and was working perfectly, so I have to suspect Broomstick was the culprit.

Works fine but the interface is way too demanding on the user. May as well make it a command line utility. I'll hold off until the developer makes it a little more user friendly. Thanks.

A heads-up to all: Before you submit your request to have Broomstick hide your app's icon, be sure to check the app's preferences to see if it offers the option.

YAY! This developer is very responsive to requests, and in a very short time, has acted on my requests. Thank you! This app runs quickly and is simple to use, and clears up my menu bar for things I really want to see. Excellent app!

It's a cute little app. And it can hide the Spotlight icon (at least on Snow Leopard; I don't know about Lion)! I wish it could hide a few more menu bar icons, though. Sent a request to the developer (you can send a request through the app), who very kindly offers this for free. ;)

If you've got any more requests just send them to me from within the app and I'll add them as quickly as I can. I've been getting tons of requests lately, so please bear with me if your request isn't included immediately. Thanks!
