Apple Configurator

2.11.1
18 October 2019

Configure and deploy iOS devices for organizations.

Overview

Apple Configurator makes it easy to deploy iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, and Apple TV devices in your school or business. Use Apple Configurator to quickly configure large numbers of devices connected to your Mac via USB with the settings, apps, and data you specify for your students, employees, or customers. Rebuilt from the ground up, Apple Configurator features a flexible, device-centric design that enables you to configure one or dozens of devices quickly and easily. Simply select a single device or many at once and perform an action. With Apple Configurator, you're able to update software, install apps and configuration profiles, rename and change wallpaper on devices, export device information and documents, and much more. You can also inspect any device to see details like serial number and hardware addresses, which apps and profiles are installed, and its console log.

Apple Configurator integrates with the Device Enrollment Program to automate MDM enrollment as well as the Volume Purchase Program to seamlessly distribute apps from the App Store. The all-new Prepare assistant makes it easy to supervise and configure a cart of iPads for the classroom or quickly enroll a large number of devices in your MDM server for ongoing management. The built-in configuration profile editor supports creating and editing profiles with the latest iOS settings.

If you’re configuring devices in an environment where consistency is critical, Blueprints allow you to create a custom configuration for your devices that can be applied with one click. Fully automate Apple Configurator and integrate its capabilities into your existing device management workflows using the included command-line tool, AppleScript scripting library, or Automator Actions. Support for iCloud Drive enables you to keep your configuration profiles and other settings consistent across multiple Configurator stations.

Do not update A Configurator 2.5. The 2.6 doesn't work if you have iTunes 12.6.3

Still keep A.Configurator 2.5 if you have iTunes 12.6.3
A.C. 2.6.1 still wants iTunes 12.7 and on
They fixed some bugs but not that one evidently ...

I downloaded this thinking it would be useful with the assorted IOS devices in my household. Hit a brick wall immediately --- searched "Help" for adding devices

There are two ways to add a device -- automatically by pointing the device to some 3-letter server -- and manually prep.

Unfortunately, the "How-to" for both methods is missing or or well hidden.
The resulting "Oh well" led me to uninstall it.

Forget this software, it works awful! I’m completely disappointed about it, and more important, I’m stupefied about the lack of assistance and documentation for the numerous errors it presents each week. I implanted it in my institution to deploy 15 iPads, but each time I’m going to restore the devices it presents like random errors and I’m forced to unsupervise then prepare them again. It’s a shame for Apple to release something not even close to an amateur’s job.

We are having problems with AC or Yosemite 1.7 when it refreshes our Erogotron carts. We are only allowed to update 22. However, afterward can then update the remaining 8. If we try to refresh the entire cart it will only refresh 22. We are not sure if it is the wiring in the cart or the software. Has anyone had this experience? The old version of AC is not available. Any suggestions?

Since updating Apple Configurator... I am unable to import apps from iTunes. When trying I receive a message stating, "Unable to import app "Apple Support Screen Sharing" "The app's identifier is missing. I'm not sure if this is a result of the Config. update or the Yosemite update... but either way I am unable to get purchased apps on our iPads. :(

Software Update says it can't be updated because I need iTunes > 10.6. Of course I have 11.0.4. I wonder what's up... and how do I fix it. Otherwise I look forward to using this 1.2.1 was great.

This is terrific. Thanks. We have been using the earlier version of Configurator with more than 30 iPads, using a 32-port security cart and it works fine. We have ordered a 49-port USB to let us do even more at one time. The 30 iPad limit does not seem like an issue. Does anyone else have experience with that?
