I was having the same pain-in-the-butt problem of having to turn wifi off then back on every time I woke my iMac from sleep. I thought that I had a defective computer or Airport router.
This seems to have fixed the problem... the problem that never should have appeared in the first place.
Although today, for the first time ever, my iMac did not recognize the keyboard or mouse after waking up, requiring a forced shut down via the power button. Hmmmm.

Just in stalled it to fix this 8 months old bug (which always was denied by Apple...). Guess what... after the restart: wifi-network could not be reconnected. SHAME on Apple

I extracted the contained file with pacifist and used it to exchange the same file on my macbook pro late 2009 (which has the same problem without a fix for now). didn`t happen again since (crossing fingers...)

Excellent update. I was having a problem after wake-up from sleep. Had to manually turn wi-fi off and on. This fixed it. Great job Apple.
