Easy Books Accounting overview

EasyBooks Accounting is a fully functional double-entry accounting application. The app is developed by Geode Software and is available as a free download. It comes with space for 120 entries (transactions) and some example companies for you to try it out. You can upgrade with a one-off purchase within the app, and you decide what features you want, so you only pay for what you need.

Easy Books is ideally suited to small businesses and 'one-man bands'. We have had lots of feedback from people who love the iOS version of this app; builders, contractors, consultants, musicians, farmers, treasurers, and, of course, bookkeepers. Together they have sent suggestions (via the feedback form) which have improved the app over time.

EasyBooks 7.8 is easily the best Accounting app I have used that has multi-company support. Yes, it is subscription-based. Yet for that modest amount the features and quality are top notch. I do not fine the pricing offensive. I was using Xero online and was paying substantially more for a one-company product. I upgraded to the Silver plan for 2019 so that I can work with the invoices feature. I used the Bronze plan for 2018 and seven LLC/S-Corps. The periodic reports for ME, QE, and YE of 2018 were a breeze to produce and send off to my clients.

If you have multi-company needs you are hard pressed to find more value for your money. If you are a single company, there may be cheaper alternatives out there but I've found the quality of this software to be excellent.

I recommend EasyBooks.

UPDATE: Just configured invoices, payment receipts, and statement of account for one of my businesses. Very professional looking output document. Very easy to customize and tweak to just what you want, within reason. I also found out that since I purchased the app from the App Store the subscription fees are less than on the website. Just sayin'...

The developer calls this application "free" although it is just a trial and actually requires a subscription fee of at least $160 per year. In my opinion this justifies to give the application only half a star. I find such an attitude dubious if not crooked.

This is not free. After 60 transactions you'll have to subscribe at $10 to $15 per month.

After praising it, I now gave this one up, it has turned into a subscription-based app (for comparison price-wise: about 1/2 the price of a full Adobe Creative Suite subscription. I find this way too steep for my basic accounting needs=single-man studio). Am now using iCompta.

Excellent app, can seem pricey getting all the modules, but considering how almost complete it is for a small business like me at least, allowing to manage both business and private financial entries, multi-currencies, different rates for different clients etc. spendings etc etc.. Interface is uncluttered, not gimmicky like many of these accounting apps. All that is missing for me is a timer to make it a complete one-stop do-it-all app, it allows for manual timed-based entries but would be nice if it actually had a clock-timer that could be turned on while working and translate into entries without having to use a separate app (as I do now). Invoices are pretty basic-looking but sufficient. I've tried many many of these apps (none as complete) and have settled on this one for the past couple of years.

The specs on this page say Easy Books 4 is compatible with OS 9. That is incorrect. If you download it, first you will see that the application icon has the corss-out image superimposed on it. If you try to launch it in Mavericks you will get a message that it only works in OS X 10.10 Yosemite. You'd think that a developer who puts so much work into his application would make sure the info on MacUpdate was correct - particularly on such an important point. Hey, guys, get your act together!

It is somewhat indecent to publish a version compatible with Mavericks only, most decent apps in this category start at 10.6.x, 10.7.x at the latest. But perhaps I am wrong—

I am sorry, but the nickel and dime approach to software should never be tolerated. After a brief peek, I walked away, so I will not rate it. If all you need is personal accounting (or even personal / small business) there are better choices that cost less... or are even free. Some are already in the "similar" list above, though I will agree with others that some may not be similar enough.

Ok, I've postponed this decision for 2 years now.. Changing my accounting setup that is. I have now played around with this, which scared me I have to admit, it somehow looks "serious and stern" which it should be but that put me off a bit at first (accounting does anyway).. Yet it is very clean and streamlined I downloaded it and opened it a few times over months, just to take a glimpse once in a while and click a few buttons here and there, until I finally dove in! This will officially replace my current setup: iCompta/TimeLog/GrandTotal (which I upgraded not long ago.. silly me). I even bought something called Debit+Credit that was supposed to play well with GrandTotal.. and ended up a total waste of crashing money. Well if I had bought this earlier.. had I only known ! EasyBooks can be the replacement for the above three, all in one. And thus much cheaper with all three modules than the software collection above as well. I will use it for the coming fiscal year to start on a clean slate ! Might even re-enter 2013 in there if I feel bored-silly on some overcast day.. And I tend to think the developer is serious and will keep this alive for many years to come..

Just a note about the 'similar software' list, almost all *WRONGLY!) related with network monitoring. Good guys of MacUpdate, help us to NOT ASK YOU to clean up this usually very useful option to add, by giving a way to suggest to delete a link.

Not exactly free. From the website: What does it cost? You can pick any of these options, but businesses typically purchase the Transactions add-on first because this extends the limit of 120 entries that you can make.
