Best app for invoices in a small business. Easy but mighty in function - we don't use everything possible. Support is a problem since almost a year - would b a pity if such a gem on Mac OS disappears! Willing to pay for updates or support to keep it alive. Keep up coding!

This was a good app, but once again it has been abandoned by the author. A notice on the website now reads "Totals (all versions) will be retired soon and will not be updated after spring 2020." He did the same with his previous app "Invoice": http://www.kedisoft.com/invoice/ so clearly he loses interest after a while, so I'd be wary of buying any future invoicing application he releases.

I think Totals is dead. Development has been rather sketchy and bugs haven't been addressed in years. I reckon it's best to move on. Playing with Grand Total and Bill 2 as well as Moon Invoice at the moment.

This isn't a review, just a couple comments. As of January 8th, 2018 Kedisoft.com is down. The promised update for Totals never showed up, the majority of bugs that were reported early on in release 3 were never fixed. I purchased 9/21/15 at version 3.1. It had two updates till now that I now of. I currently am on version 3.1.5 and have been since some time before 10/30/17. It does work on High Sierra but I do think there is a memory leak in the app as whenever I have it open for any length of time apps become less responsive. Oddly nothing shows up in Activity Monitor to suggest it is a problem app but after several years of using it I know that when I open it, if I have it open for several hours, my computer becomes less responsive which is really noticeable when changing desktops and Safari tabs. When the app is closed, my system returns to normal. In the several years I had the app, I never received a reply from Kedisoft to emails and gave up early on trying to get support. As others have commented, support was/is non-existent; and now so is the site. Personally, I had purchased this app to get away from Filemaker, which due to constantly changing OS X no longer worked and the required paid upgrade to get to Filemaker to work again was more than the cost of Totals and I was tired of the hassle and cost of FileMaker and thought a simple solution like Totals would be the ticket. It is one of the few apps that supported inventory at this price range along with customizable invoices. When it worked, it worked fine enough but was aways "weak" compared to my Filemaker solution. Anyway, I would recommend looking elsewhere for an invoicing app as this one is currently dead.

Just checked and the website is up again. I don't use the app (I got it as part of a bundle in 2013 but I don't need an invoice-creator) so I can't comment on the memory issue...

As Funjoy commented, the website is back up (checked today, Apr 13, 2018). Yay! I had stopped checking so Funjoy's comment had me go looking. And as Rasputinsrevengereloadet commented the app has been updated. The developer even appologized for the long delay in the comments on one of the updates. This, for me, is really good news as I had yet to find a replacement. I hope the developer updates the app to fix some of the oddities in the way Totals does some things as well as expand its functionality and flexibility for different workflows.

I have not used the update yet, only just installed it, so I can't comment yet on if the memory issues remain. The update comments do mention fixes for High Sierra but don't elaborate much on what the fixes are. My opinion on the support has not changed though. To date I still have never received a reply to a support request.

So, for now, I retract my recommendation to stay away from this app. Take a look at what it does and if its significant price tag is justifiable for you for its feature set and the strong possibility of poor to non-existant support.

Software could use more detailed manual, existing leaves a lot to be desired and it's not available in pdf format either. Total lack of a blog and forum is also worrying for a software aimed at business users. Finally (and this is most worrying) non-existent support; sent them two questions via email on 17 November and today, 22 November still awaiting a reply.

Yes, their support is non-existent. i recall paying less for V2 but at this cost, I expect 24-48 contact 24x7x365. They aren't thinking "people use this for business". Unfortunately, this is the only app I've found that lets me lay out my invoices with details and a back end database unless I want to develop my own from Filemaker Pro or a web-based app. Not worth my time, so I'm using this app.

This is a pity as Totals is a really nice bit of software. That said, I get far better support on a €5 software on my phone than Totals, still no sign of a reply from them to my queries and I don't expect one. Shame on them because at $129 this is not cheap.

Totals 2 was $39.99 and Totals 3 is a whopping $74? For an upgrade? If you’re to buy a new license it’s actually $129? Granted, Totals 3 is a big step from Totals 2, but at that price I’m looking for an alternative. Sorry. The changes are OK, but that price jump isn’t justified. Not at all.

Big corporations like Apple? Aperture, an app from the pro line, is USD 80. Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are USD 20 a pop. Microsoft Office 365, a software suite from another big corporation, is USD 60 per year for the personal edition. Not sure about your math here.

Yeah, I made that decision as well. I'm all for paying developers for doing a good job, but there's a point where "enough is enough". The upgrade fee is to much. i have no sympathy if they pull the "I have a family to feed" card. They're in the wrong business if they think they'll make a living selling Mac software.

Finding a great invoicing app is not easy. Especially one that's easy to understand and with easy customisable layouts. With Totals I am able to create the invoices i want. As a graphic designer my demands concerning layout and usability are high. It's quite simple to use and pleasing to the eye. By tweaking the default layout (with a little help from the forum) I was able to ad my identity, ad a custom discount field per item/service and even have a total discount on the invoice, which is a must. Very good.

Very useful and easy to understand. Runs well under 10.8.x. It does multiple currencies well, so it is great for a freelancer/small business like myself handling international sales. I was a Billings.app user for a few years but I migrated to this one due to their move to a subscription model which I didn't prefer to invest into. Totals has turned out to address some of the shortcomings of Billings.app. I also looked at ZOHO Invoice, but adding yet another SaaS cost to my existing SaaS subscription portfolio was not something I preferred doing at this time. I found Totals to be much more cost-effective in that sense. Also, ZOHO's PDF invoice was just plain ugly and didn't give me quite as much control as Totals does. I also looked at other SaaSs but they are all U.S. centric and wouldn't work well for my international needs quite as well. One drawback is the lack of iOS app, but the developer seems to have been working on it, and it wasn't a deal breaker for me since I am always with my Mac even while on the road and I would much rather work with a bigger screen and a keyboard for quick quoting and invoicing on the run. It's quite customizable to fit my needs, it's got a nice user interface which I consider valuable for something I have to use every week, and my data can be easily exported to CSV to be used in other apps. Overall, strongly recommended.

I was using Billings until they discontinued it and moved it to the cloud. As I don't want to store my client data in the cloud and I don't want to invest hundreds of $ for my own billings server, I was looking for a replacement. And Totals has it all ...and much more! Even the GUI and the interface sections were a little bit confusing at first, it is a very flexible tool. There is nothing I am really missing (OK, maybe the possibility of plan/due invoices) and once you have set it up, Totals is very productive.

The price was right as well as the ability to do custom invoices with graphic layout. This had it all. Then they upgraded to a Lion-only version but didn't code it to not run on 10.6.8. It upgraded my database and now I can't extract or print anything. "You should have read the documentation" was their response when I complained. If I'd known they were so crappy at customer service, I'd have spent the time to develop a Filemaker solution. I still might. These guys wasted to much of my time to ever trust them again. The Add client, create invoice, add money cycle makes this very painful for a point-of-sale receipt generator but it was the closest I found to replace my Appleworks database. Pity.

Wow. That was not cool at all. And their response to your very legitimate complaint was extremely unprofessional. Nobody has time to read the documentation of every single app they use whenever they need an update. If Kedisoft are too lazy to properly code their app, they should have at least given pre-Lion users a big warning about this before installation takes place. Thanks for the heads up, Michael-Vilain.

This is more of a question than a comment. The screen video is so quick you can barely see what the program really does. Rather than try every product on the market and have the programs I don't choose leave a bunch of extra stuff in my computer on uninstall of the demo I prefer to know what the program can actually do. It says it can track billable time. Can it record a pre-paid block of hours and then record negative time to be subtracted from that block to count down to zero so a new block can be billed?

Totals does not have a time tracker. It will work for you if you enter billable times as items (pre-paid block of hours). Totals will keep track of inventory. In your case your quantity will be hours and it will decrease the hours as you use the items (pre-paid blocks) in your invoices.

You partially seemed to answer the question and I appreciate your time. But does Totals do the computation or is that something that you are saying that I have to do in a custom invoice? For instance the former program "Billable" was perfect for standard billing but when I changed to pre-paid blocks it did not allow me to record time in negative increments in order to count down to zero when the prepaid block of time of say 10 hours was used up. I'm looking for a program that has this one feature but I want the program to do it and not me. Billable would have been perfect if it allowed negative time increments but that was it's drawback for me. I sell blocks of time for service and then as I type in time that is used I want it to take my entries and subtract the time used from the prepaid positive amount. Most time accounting programs to not allow for subtraction of time or "negative time" in their automated calculations. The programs usually only bill upward to the total amount due. My billing requires that the reverse be done automatically. Your answer seemed to say yes but I want to make sure it was done by the program and not that I have to create a specialized invoice and do the calculations myself. Thanks for your patience.

Very impressive how it handels my sales items. I imported about three files at the size of 15! MB with more than 30'000 entries each. Totals had no problem to handle them. Thats very well done. Also the CSV Import was nice and easy. No CSV Document settings needed at all. The UI is very well Mac a like so no need to say more. Only problem is, that the Layout Designer was not flexible enough for my needs. Otherwise I would have bought this nice product. So I turn back to my old software solution where I can build Layouts with C++, means everything is possible but a pain in the ass to work with!

After some puzzling i found out how this software works. Because it is all English and i am from the Netherlands, it would be very nice to see localized languages of it. (Maybe i can help to translate it for the developer in Dutch?) After the upgrade (i bought it yesterday) i had some little snitches in making the software work for me. I think it was more an issue on my side than an issue in the software itself. But after working half an hour with it i must say that it is working as expected. Hi Detlevski, I understand your concerns. But please let me explain something. I see only 2 users claiming that I'm not responsive. I found 7 resolved tickets opened by Robert Reynolds in our system. And the other review is not even serious, as you can see. It is not true that we are rolling our a paid upgrade. We don't charge for upgrades. That's good Ferhat, support questions can be very personal and sometimes can't be taken seriously, as some comments cannot be taken seriously. I agree with that. Information on Macupdate is usually helpful in determining wether a program is worth being evaluated. I have paid some upgrade fees that were effectively bug-fixes. I am not saying you or your company do that, but for me the best reason for buying a program is besides functionality of course support. The comments were not too enthousiastic, but let me make clear I did not have a problem with your support and I respect and value your comment.

Let me first start off by saying that I don't use this software and haven't even tried it. What I'm commenting on here is the reliability of MacUpdate for software reviews, given the anonymity of the posters. I can no longer trust some of the comments by "reviewers" here since a lot of them have become nothing more than "hitmen". I have seem hundreds of unjustified posts erroneously bashing software because they had a crash on a much earlier version, or didn't like a nominal upgrade fee. I even had someone go through my profile and -1 every single post I've ever done because they disagreed with one of my posts. I use several software programs that continually get bashed by the same people time and time again, but I know better, because the work flawlessly for me. Therefore, taken ANY review here with a grain of salt, especially if there's a wide gap between reviews (a lot of 5-star reviews mixed with a lot of 1-star reviews).
