See noivad.10Centuries blog for full review. Bottom Line: Recommended if on 702.11N or above. But lack of network selection, and lack of audio output selection reduce its rating to 3.5.

hmm… not sure what a 702.11N network is… must be a typo. (Meant 802.11N ;) I wish MacUpdate allowed edits.

Good piece of software...

it only lacks option for automatic subtitles that would beamer find in local directory and push to apple tv...

automatic subtitles option as it exists now depends on apple tv settings and requires user to manually elect or manually rename subtitle files which is annoying

A brilliant bit of software, has always worked flawlessly for me. Everyone with an ATV should own this software. Brilliant. The developer is working on queuing files and that will make this impossibly better when that happens. Buy it!

We had a few videos on disk, a Mac that wasn't new enough to support Airplay natively and a TV that sadly wasn't connected to an aerial - but did have an Apple TV.

I downloaded the demo and dropped a video (an avi) onto it, it asked for my Apple TV password (which it lets you save) and started streaming away. It seemed to work so I paid for the full version and pasted in the registration (thank goodness that worked as it was looooong).

Just finished playing a full film flawlessly - and we had to pause in the middle so (skeptically) grabbed for the Apple TV remote and it did successfully pause and restart the playing of the film - pleasantly impressed. Expect a lot of use in the near future.

Beamer is a great piece of software. I've never had an issue with it. I always install the new updates when they're released and "... it just works." It makes playing my video library so much easier since I don't have to convert my MKVs for iTunes.

It would be nice if the video displayed during FF & Rewind but I presume that's a limitation of the on-the-fly conversion.

It will be good to have the controls in the software itself instead of using the Apple Tv remote.

The AirPlay Movie Player for Mac... Watch any movie file on your Apple TV without hassle. No need to convert the video or jailbreak your Apple TV. Just open the movie with Beamer and you're done; the video will start streaming to your Apple TV right away.

Plays Any Movie File... Just like the popular desktop movie players, Beamer accepts all common formats, codecs and resolutions. AVI, MKV, MOV, MP4, WMV, FLV; to Beamer, it's all the same.

High Quality Image... Unlike Screen Mirroring, Beamer is specifically optimized for video playback at the highest quality. No glitches, clicks, pops or other shenanigans. Your movie files look just as good as they would on your desktop.

5.1 Surround Sound Support. If you have a nice home cinema set, you probably want to put it to good use. Screen Mirroring is limited to stereo sound, but Beamer preserves surround sound in movie files for your pleasure. Works with Dolby Digital and DTS.

Easy Subtitles... Beamer automatically detects embedded subtitles and associated SUB and SRT files. If possible, subtitles will be selected automatically based on your Apple TV's Subtitle Language preference.

Remote Control... You can pause, fast-forward and rewind the movie using the Apple TV remote. No need to get up from the couch!
