The program is free, but the author has a donate button on his website. Just having multiple panes per tab was enough to have me install the app and donate $20 to him for it. The app has many other features as well and is an awesome terminal emulator.

The v3.3.6 update is CRITICAL due to an ancient security flaw just discovered, CVE-2019-9535. More here: '7-Year-Old Critical RCE Flaw Found in Popular iTerm2 macOS Terminal App' https://thehackernews.com/2019/10/iterm2-macos-terminal-rce.html

The most amazing terminal emulator I've ever found. I sure wish I could have it on Windows, too.

Upgraded to Mojave this morning and then upgraded iTerm2 to 3.2.1. When I launch it, I see a message, "Unable to find any JVMs matching version "(null)". No Java runtime present, try --request to install." I'm not sure why this is the case, as I don't believe iTerm2 is Java-based. It hasn't affected anything so far, but it's curious....

Very satisfied. A must have with lots of features and frequent updates. Many thanks to the developer. The only thing I'm missing is the drag and drop of text selextions within the terminal windows like in Apple's Terminal.

Great terminal emulator for OSX. A lot additional options.
But always back to Terminal.app

iTerm rendering fonts so awful.
After Terminal.app text in iTerm looks like a shit.

It's worth noting that 3.0.7 is a stable beta. 3.0.4 is still being distributed as the official release.

This is definitely the best terminal app for OS X. Especially for people who have a lot of remote boxes to connect to this terminal is a must have. Also I don't agree on the bad rendering - just use a proper font and everything is clear and readable (iMac retina). I _really_ use this daily. And yes, it's free - but a tool which I use so frequently seemed to be worth a few bucks to me, so I've donated. So I'm serious by saying: Great App.

Very useful tool with no possibility to replace Terminal.app for me. iTerm rendering fonts so awful so after 10min I always back to the Terminal.app. In iTerm 3 nothing changed. This same awful fonts rendering.

I totally agree. I tried iTerm 3 only to go back to Apple's default Terminal.app. It's not a bad program but I fail to see why this is better than Terminal.app besides some minor non-essential conveniences. Sure there are some neat features but nothing compelling enough to use it as my default terminal.

iTerm may be nice, but the truth is that there has been much improvement to the OS X Terminal app in recent years. I use it regularly in Yosemite, and it properly and beautifully displays PC-ANSI graphics on BBSes. The key is to know and use the proper settings. Here is proof: http://www.billkochman.com/BBS/BBS-Log-On-Screen.png http://www.billkochman.com/BBS/Here-Lies-BBSing-Log-On.png http://www.billkochman.com/BBS/BBS-Main-Menu.png http://www.billkochman.com/BBS/BBS-Transfer-Menu.png http://www.billkochman.com/BBS/BBS-Log-Off-Screen.png

MacUpdate devs: I think you need to remove the "(beta)" from the end of the short description of this software. 2.0 is not a beta, at least not according to its website.

I like it if only for the fact that one only has to highlight text to then paste it, i.e. no more highlighting and then typing CMD C to copy it. Also like the tool bar that has a entry window to type commands before actually running them. I recommend the beta version as I noticed right away some obvious bugs in ver 1.0, which are cleared up in the later release, e.g. the transparency feature doesn't work in 1.0, but does in the beta version. Also like the format of the Help feature, i.e. everything is layed out in one long page, and it seems fairly extensive.

For the longest time, I would see announcements about a new version of iTerm2 and would skip right past, thinking "what could it possibly have that Terminal.app doesn't? what a waste of time", I also missed that it was open source. A month or two ago, I downloaded it and felt like a fool. There's all kinds of feature improvements over Terminal.app + I've switched over exclusively to iTerm2. I spend a lot of time in shell + I can't emphasize enough how much better life is with iTerm2.

I simply *HATE* that searching forwards searches backwards and searching backwards searches forwards. How'd you feel if your car turned left, when you turned the steering-wheel clockwise ?? Also, I'd like it possible to disable the 'wrapped around' image that flashes in the window, when reaching the end of the searches.

...Sorry I might sounding negative... My nummeric pad does *NOT* have any arrows on it, so please do not change its behaviour. I reconfigured it the cumbersome way. Pressing num-0 results in send text '0', pressing num-1 results in send text '1', etc, etc, etc... 17 times total. Feature is good, but incorrect defaults. Another thing, when typing 'ls -l' and then pressing backspace a few times, a number of extraneous characters suddenly appear in the terminal window. (I'm only using iTerm, because currently my Terminal.app is frozen and I cannot quit it. I dare not risk restarting my Quadcore G5, because only two of the cores are running, and if I restart it, I do not know if it will come back up running). I better try and make a duplicate of Terminal.app...

Fantastic update to iTerm, and better than Terminal in so many ways. The current developer is making some great advancements in functionality: if you spend a significant amount of time staring at a terminal window this application is a must have.
