Great app. Use it daily and it just works. The only hangup I have is the price (and that's more to say that the product isn't worth it but rather I'm cheap). It's a solid 4..5 star.

Bought this from MacUpdate bundle and always had issues getting the license reactivated. Finally got so fed up and I abandoned this turkey. There's much better software out there with much better customer support. I'd say go find something else.

Unable to download software and register purchases. To many bells and whistles to many distractions that lead to more purchases unwanted. How about some help straight forward so I can use the software?

In version 2.4.607 here seems to be a bug so that unrealistic measurings are displayesd in "Discovery Mode" (Signal=0 and Signal%=100%). I notified NetSpot a week ago and asked if this will influence "Survey Mode" so that the resulting map may be invalid. Alas, no answer to this day ...

Yes, finally I got an answer now but I'm away from my work area so I can't test the new version.

I like many others have not received my serial number. It has been a week and a half since I bought it and after two emails to the developer and 2 to MacUpdate, still nothing. I don't think the odds of me buying through MacUpdate are very high anymore.

Hi there, when you say "many others', how many do you actually mean? I see three people here actively posting negative comments about the license delivery, but only you have actually reported the issue directly to us. I'm really sorry for the delayed fix to that, and we would appreciate cleaning out some of the comments here. As all licenses that were reported not received are activated today.

OK sure. I will help you clear this out. First of all, I started looking through comments and there were quite a few comments with issues about the license, though I see now that some were from the same people, so yes, "a few others" would have been the better way to state it. I can't say enough positive about Ryan at MacUpdate's handling of it all, and they were very responsive and helpful in seeing this through to an acceptable conclusion. After just over two weeks, and writing Netspot directly at least twice, I finally did get my activation code (with the help of MacUpdate), but that was TWO weeks with no response from the developer until the very end... I find that unacceptable A simple acknowledgement that they were working on the problem would have been all that was needed, but a deaf ear lends no confidence at all of the intents of the developer, and it becomes something that is just a big hassle and time sink. So in conclusion, the issue was finally resolved and though I do appreciate the apology, I wasn't impressed with the admin side of Netspot in this transaction. I do like the program!

My business has a particular current need for the full capabilities of this software, so I took advantage of the promotional price. My receipt reads, "Your serial number will be emailed to you directly by the developer," but there is no indication of how long I am supposed to wait. It is now a day later and I still have no serial number. (I'm assuming the "serial number" is the activation code for which the software asks.) My e-mail to MacUpdate support has gone unanswered as well.

I did the same thing as you. They are both being lame at communication. The folks at Netspot have until the end of the day to respond, then I'm off to my bank to scream Credit Card fraud about macupdates, then I'm going to torrent an older version of Netspot Pro just to spite Netspot for being lousy at communicating. This does not speak well of how they might support a customer who paid $150 or more for their product......they can't be THAT busy.

Interesting as I've commented on here the "promo" for $20 for Netspot PRO has been removed. Yesterday the "promo" still had 20 days until it ended.

I received an e-mail from MacUpdate support yesterday around noon PDT with the following message:

"i have contacted the developer directly and they should be following up with you shortly."

Of course, the developer still has not contacted me.

As neither the developer nor MacUpdate has made good on this (with either a serial number or a refund), I am left with no recourse other than to file a fraud claim with my credit card company for non-delivery of goods. What a shame.

Guys, please, see some recent comments above. Dear bboberson, you are the only one who we could not track by your nickname. So if you still haven't received your license, please, email official "very busy" support at onair@netspotapp.com or me directly at al@etwok.com, we'll be glad to help.

NetSpot is nice but nothing special In Discovery mode, but it’s nothing short of great in Survey mode. However, you’d think they’d allow users to hide or rearrange the SSID and BSSID columns in the $149 Pro version. Next update maybe?

I forgot to mention that a faster scan interval in Discover mode would also be welcome — say every 2 seconds.

Hi GeoProf,

1 - SSID and BSSID columns are actually the essence of the Discover mode, we don't see any reason to let users hide them. But... let's discuss: http://help.netspotapp.com/talk

2 - Unfortunately, WiFi polling may take even longer than 2 seconds, especially when visible networks are numerous. This will only lead to more idle traffic back and forth to the APs, as each sample in Discover mode means data packets being sent and received.

Sorry, the original comment came at initial posting to MacUpdate was intended to be a check point for the developer. MacBook Pro 2.3GHz i7 w/ 16GB RAM running 10.8.3 Original update was in app and failed to run. Deleted app, all preferences and related files to re-install from fresh download direct from developers site. Same result... app fails to launch. Same result if installed on a fresh, new user account with nothing other than basic OS running.

Finally had time to trouble shoot a bit and found the problem. Previous version was installed in a folder WITHIN the Utilities folder (where I normally keep my various network tools). This version DOES run just fine if installed in Applications or Utilities folders. It DOES NOT run if in a subfolder within the Utilities folder.

I also confirm L P Bagley comments that this version (2.1.4) can not reside inside a sub folder within the Utility or Application folder. It has to be all by itself in the Application folder. In addition when I added the version number to the name ( NetSpot 2.1.4 ) it would not launch. These are very weird conditions not to my liking however free is free is what you get. (Mac OS X 10.6.8 iMac intel core duo )

This is a great little utility to help you visualize the strength of your wireless network at various places in your home or office setting. I just used it to get confirmation that my Apple Express base station was not properly configured in regards to its ability to extend the range of my network, as flowing from my Apple Extreme base station, located near my desktop computers in my home office. I knew something was wrong, but seeing the color-coded depiction of the various levels of signal strength confirmed the faulty configuration and triggered me to go into the Airport Utility to correct the problem. Thanks to the this little tool, I finally got the ability to have a strong enough network signal to connect to the Internet and to my desktop Macs from anywhere within my house, including out on the porch. Of course, I had the right devices: I just did not configure them correctly. NetSpot pointed that out to me in a more dramatic fashion that another useful tool within this category, namely, AirRadar, which I also recommend. AirRadar scans all of the wireless networks within its earshot and can produce statistics along with a graph of the signal strength and noise. That is useful information to be sure. AirRadar creates its profile depending on the physical location of your laptop. If you physically move your laptop, your stats and graph will change. NetSpot appears to use of that same snapshotting of a laptop's location in comparison to a base station, but it goes one step further than AirRadar (which is designed for a different purpose) in the sense that, when you create your mapping of your network, you physically carry your laptop from point to point and you direct NetSpot to take a survey of the signal strength of your network at that particular point. When you are all done carrying your laptop to your various locations, you stop the scanning, and NetSpot displays a color-coded map, overlaid on the diagram you previously drew of your home of office layout, to show you the relative strength of the network signal to each and every spot on your survey. That's cool! The overall application would benefit from the addition of some basic instructions or a short instructional video to step you through things, so, if you're like me, you might find yourself a little lost in the beginning. But once you figure out how the app works, it's pretty easy to get your network mapping done.
