Defragment meta data in a disk volume.

Overview

StellarDriveDefrag is here to help you systematize the fragmented data and free space in the Mac volumes. The software gathers the fragmented data of a file and stores together into a single chunk of memory, which makes the data access speed faster.

Features
  • Defrags the meta-data files in a volume.
  • Optimizes the fragmented free spaces in a volume by clubbing them together.
  • Performs defragmentation on an entire volume and drags files to a contiguous memory location.
Bonus Add On
  • Creates Bootable DVD to defrag the boot volume of the Mac system.

What's new in StellarDriveDefrag

I don’t normally comment on competitors’ products, but their egregious behaviour leaves me with little choice. This product is a poor attempt to rip-off iDefrag’s user interface, and is being advertised misleadingly on the Internet in an attempt to steal sales from us.

This crappy software doesn't work. Worked with their support people for hours trying to get it to work. Then after many hours and no luck, they refused to give me a refund.

It was superb to work with brand new Mac system, but gradually, later with the usage over months, the Mac performance started running out. I was looking for an efficient disk defragmenter, which could make my Mac quicker. Stellar Drive Defrag did the same as I wished.

This is more like malware than real software and is obviously worse than useless. MacUpdate should take it down as a service to its readers. Absent that, those who have been burned by this product provide an object lesson for the rest of us: Don't use new or unfamiliar apps that can possibly harm your system by messing with the volume structure. Even with legitimate and proven programs, defragmenting a drive is one of the riskiest procedures around. A credible utility will warn you to back up your drive before proceeding with a defrag. And a responsible user will do so. Anyone who doesn't back up regularly is begging for trouble in any case. As the old maxim says: There are only two kinds of people, those who have lost data and those who will lose data.

My comments are for the new, unlisted on MU,version 2.0 As like other users,I had a terrible experience with this. After using StellaDriveDefrag,my OS,Mountain Lion, wouldn't boot up under normal circumstances. Had to reboot via Recovery Drive, and even then I had problems. Applications galore crashed, and those that didn't were unstable. After 12 (yes, twelve) hours of sorting out my drive with utilities such as Onyx and others,I have now a near back-to-normal OS. Also to note was how long (5 hours) it has taken to remedy Spotlight after using Stellar. So,everybody,be warned.Apple says we don't need to defrag the system. I wish I had heeded their advice.

be very careful. Defragged a storage partition, 8 hours for around 200gigs, but then could not launch apps from that partition. A short while later (minutes...) whilst trying to browse the partition, got a kernel panic. First one this year. Upon reboot, the volume would not mount. Not happy. Disk utility could not repair it - really not happy. Fortunately disk warrior saved the day, and was able to resurrect the partition and get most of the apps working (regular files were not affected), but lots of adobe apps gone for good, so will need to reinstall those. Only one star because I can't work out how to give negative stars. Be very very careful, and have a complete backup before trying this.
