Change the color of Address Book and iCal in Lion.

Overview

Welcome to LionBleacher. By performing this installation, the brown textures and graphics from Address Book and iCal in Lion become "discolored". Address book receives a blue pattern instead of Apple's own brown leather. Since this app now differs utmost from Apple's own interface guidelines, the look and layout of Address Book in Snow Leopard probably cannot be recovered. But you can get rid of all browns and ocres. My choice here is black and blue. iCal makes the task a lot easier. Here the brown graphics and the torn paper are either deleted or simply replaced by gray. It seems that all brownish text color in UI-elements cannot be easily changed since Apple uses compiled NIB files.

No system files or preferences are modified, only graphics. However, there is an option in the Installer to return to Apple's own design. The installation is still at your own risk, so you should have a time machine backup ready.

First app of its kind. Automatically checking whether the Download meets your system reqirements. Using theoriginal Apple installer with uninstaller option (original graphics) included. This is why the file size is quite heavy. Others try to do this manually.

Unfortunately, this version does not work with Mountain Lion. The app runs, but does not get rid of the fake leather. And yes, unfortunately Mountain Lion has retained fake leather for both Calendar and Contacts, at least in the current beta.

Thanks so much for this easy "fix" of the faux leather iCal, which I really didn't like. The download and installation was easy and very fast. (Others offer more complex instructions that were somewhat daunting.) It doesn't sound like much but I had to look at it many times a day, so I just happy for the simple aluminium style and am very an appreciative fan!

A quick and easy fix to an absolutely hideous problem. Not sure why Apple thought iCal and Address Book needed to look that ugly, but I am happy someone provided a solution. And it's free! Thanks so much to the developer (Vielen Dank für dieses Programm!)

LionBleacher does exactly what it says, and it does it with just a couple of clicks and maybe ten seconds of your time. I had already "fixed" iCal on another of my machines manually before I discovered this application, but LionBleacher is a real time-saver. Many thanks Matthias! Just by way of comment, I was really surprised when I first saw the new skin design of iCal and Address Book. I think I am not alone in saying that the new faux-leather and torn paper concept really is gimmicky and tacky. Further, while they look just like what is on your iPad, they do not look anything like the standard design elements of OSX. I know this may seem blasphemous, but they really look more like part of a tinker toy Windows style interface. Where are Apple going with their sense of design aesthetics?

I'd prefer to see these types of things on sites like DeviantArt.com. Mods by independent developers, artists, and file hackers don't really need to be posted on an application site. We rely on MacUpdate.com to provide us with stable, Apple-friendly software. These types of mods risk things like breaching Apple's warranty and breaking system files. It looks nice, though!
