PrintToPDF2.4.4

25 September 2002

Create .pdf docs from word processing documents.

Overview

PrintToPDF is a shareware Mac printer driver that creates .pdf (Adobe Acrobat) files. You do not need to have the full Acrobat package (as opposed to the Reader) installed for PrintToPDF to work. You can create PDF bookmarks to your section and subsection headings, and URLs will become hot links. PrintToPDF is not as powerful as Acrobat, but it creates simple .pdf's for a much lower price ($20).

What's new in PrintToPDF

Version 2.4.4 fixes the following:
  • Fixed a bug that caused rectangles to be missing from PDFs made in Reunion.
  • Fixed a bug that caused misaligned lines in Virtual Composer.

This is one of those apps which insinuates itself into your life with just the breath of freedom that you knew you needed but didn't have the presence of mind to take. It is wonderful, and a godsend to one who cannot afford the "high price" brand. In a word, I am PLEASED>

PrintToPDF works great for documents with images but I have been having problems getting the text to work properly. The characters crash into one another and sometimes the fonts change. As a designer it's pretty much a disaster. Any tips on how to fix this?

Though the fonts are not truly embedded, this is a great software to share online documents that are sure to respect the original layout - your columns are gonna remain the way they were planned, etc...

Wow. It works. I had been struggling with font-location problems for three days with distiller trying to get a VERY simple quark document out in pdf format. This excellent tool did the trick with a minimum of configuration. Works just like a printer driver. To be honest, it did substitute some fonts I would have preferred to keep original, but I could live with that.

When creating a document in Adobe InDesign, and using PrintToPDF to export as a PDF document, the text output is not antialiased. It's better quality for me to use InDesign's export at PDF feature.

The is the best (perhaps the only) solution for Mac users who need PDF's cross-platform capability. It's a wonderful tool for electronic publishers who wish to expand their market base, or for anyone who has the need to communicate with international users. . . . And you can't beat the price.

This is the only shareware I've ever come across that is worth keeping and paying for. I have always wanted to be able to create PDF documents but didn't want to fork out the $230 necessary for Adobe's software. This $20 shareware product is the perfect substitute. While it doesn't have all the features that Adobe Acrobat has, it has enough for the average use; and with the $20 pricetag, it is a superb bargain, the best software bargain I have ever run across. Highly recommended. This is one shareware product you will want to pay for.
