What an intrusive app! If you don't let it access 89 different servers - not counting the ones containing the videos you're trying to download - it's useless. It also wants to download lots of add-ons that make me leery. I know for a fact that I have a JRE and ffmpeg, yet it says I don't have them and wants to install them. Makes me want to reinstall Sophos to see what kind of damage it's caused. And it freezes up for long periods.

On the plus side, it's been able to get things that the generally useless Videobox and the even-more-useless Jaksta don't even see, much less download.

The URL to download 2.0 beta has changed. For 10.7+ it is: http://installer.jdownloader.org/JD2SilentSetup.dmg

Finally got around to trying this out after having trouble several times trying to download a very large file via my browser. This did the trick. If you haven't yet tried out a DL manager, definitely give this one a shot. It has a lot of useful features and add-ons, but suffers from the bane of most open-source apps: very poor documentation, for which I had to dock it a star on its overall rating.

Here are a couple of fairly recent tutorials I found that helped me get started:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_U0eKbsffs

(yes, it has annoying techno/electronic music in the background, but it is fairly short and to the point)

http://www.groovypost.com/howto/freeware/download-anything-anywhere-internet-jdownloader-review

http://humbleman123.blogspot.com/p/jdownloader-guide.html

As mentioned in the two above text/graphic-based tutorials, when first installing be sure to get updates, which includes a large list of plugins for various hosts; this will take a few minutes. Then restart the program. You should then be good to go.

P.S.: There is a very important button, with a clipboard icon, which enables/disables monitoring the clipboard for new links. You REALLY want to disable this when you are copying non-DL links to the clipboard.

Does not work with Java 1.7.0_15. When Apple Java 1.6 is uninstalled it will keep asking for Apples Java to be installed.

This is most likely to the fact that Jave 1.7 is 64-bit and JDownloader is 32-bit.

Would be cool, if developers could address this problem.

Hi ! It seems that you have to install both jdk and jre of Java 1.7 to use JDown with it. It works at home.

Thanks for pointing that.I've been facing a lot of problems with JD Lately, and I hope developers consider something to fix these kind of issues. And this is so likely that they don't do anything about it .I'm still hopeful ,and I know that this is kind of essential for some people like me to have better experience with JD.Fixing other problems such as very long time start and quit would be nice too.

The screenshot above looks nothing like the app. It appears to be the Java development environment in which jDownloader was written.

Mac Os X 4ever had trouble on 09 May 2013
It doesn't seem to work at all. I was trying instead of Speed Download since that is now a dead product.
There doesn't seem to be any kind of plugin or anything to intercept the downloads.
Nothing installs in the Internet Plugins folder, and Safari just grabs the downloads. Never gets to J Downloader.
I can force by drag & drop, but that's the only way I have seen it work so far.
