Another shady developer.

ATTENTION!!! Developers!

If you charge a penny for an app you have listed for free, well it's not friggin' free!! Therefore, this app asks that you pay $14 to encrypt anything over 500kb, so yeah, as others have stated, it's NOT FREE! It's garbage shareware, masquerading as a free app, in the vain hope that once you download, install, and open it, that you'll just think it's amazing and be more than happy to fork over $14.

But I don't know about you, but anytime I'm lied to by a developer, well, that automatically means they will never receive a single cent from me, ever. Developers who do this shady garbage, will try and have a semantic debate with you on "how it's "FREE" because you don't have to pay to use it". But that's wrong and stupid for two reasons. 1st, while you technically don't have to pay to use it, the developer will always limit or cripple the app in some way, in an attempt to entice you to pay for the uncrippled version. And 2nd, it's S H A R E W A R E!!!

That is why a person one day, decided to come up with a word for software that was neither free, nor fully paid. Instead of "shareware", I personally like to call it "crippleware". And honestly there is nothing wrong with it, it's a great way to show customers how the app works, and hopefully they will buy it after that. But when you knowingly misrepresent your app as being "FREE", when to anyone person with brain cells, it's absolutely "SHAREWARE", and they have a shareware section on Mac Update for this very reason. Well it's just a completely unethical and shady way to try and sell your product. But as long as there are applications being sold, there will always be that section of crap developers who can't play by the rules, and have the ethics and integrity of a drug dealer. I'll recommend similar software that is much better, and best of all, when they label it as "FREE", it's actually free.

Richard Dick Peters III,

It seems to have been a mistake on MacUpdate's part that this app was listed as free. We've corrected that. Sorry for any inconvenience! The App Store version is available for $6.99.

Don't know what youz guyz below are smoking but this software is good. Small, quick, single task, FREE, does the job with options to destroy files if necessary. It works well. My only issue is how secure are the encrypted files? Can they be broken easily. I need bullet proof because I don't trust lawyers or politicians. No documentation at all. Give this guy a break, I like his website!

Link to developer's site is:

http://dekorte.com/projects/shareware/Crypt/

Being that it is kept in the folder named 'shareware' I have serious doubts that it actually is free.

Developer typically uses per machine licensing, which I wouldn't mind if you could transfer the license when replacing your Mac, but as is I won't waste my time even trying his software.
