SoundJam MP Free2.5.3

19 April 2001

Play and encode MP3 songs.

Overview

Sorry, this file has been temporarily pulled from our server because of bandwidth prices. Casady & Greene no longer offers it on their site anyway.

SoundJam MP Free is an MP3 player and encoder all in one application. It can quickly convert MP3's from CD, AIFF, QuickTime, and WAV formats. SoundJam MP takes full advantage of the 10:1 compression of the MP3 format allowing you to compress your music collection to a fraction of its size, while maintaining near CD quality. With MP3 compression you can put all your music into a jukebox collection on your Mac.

What's new in SoundJam MP Free

Version 2.5.3 fixes the following:
  • Support for the new Rio 800
  • Miscellaneous bug fixes including fixing a problem which could affect the right-channel playback of some MP3 files.

Great program. Total control and ease of use. I've found nothing to replace it and have been looking for a year now. I am a registered user having bought it long ago. However my version of 2.5.3 is not OS X native. This is bad news for me now that I'm now fully OS X on my system. I would LOVE the OSX version of 2.5.3. Please! Anyone know where I can find it! Thanks, James (biz@believeinpeace.com)

SoundJam MP is/was one of the early best-pick audioware apps. C&G were told by the developer to stop publishing it. I would pay the money to have SJ-MP PLUS full version , as it was a great one-box toolkit.

One of the best MP3 players for MAC that I have seen. During the first 30 days you also have access to advanced features which later get disabled :-((.

Take 2: To correct what I wrote below: Very few FREE MP3 players give you any sort of adjustqable EQ (including iTunes). This free player has separate bass & treble controls, and the full version expands that to a full blown graphic EQ that you can store your own custom settings (per song if you want). The graphic EQ sounds MUCH better than any other player I've used. HIGHLY recommended.

The absolute ultimate MP3 player (and encoder) for the Mac. The free version has separate bass & treble controls which very few players (including iTunes) don't have. Sounds EXCELLENT. The full version has a graphic EQ that sounds totally amazing. No lie. I deleted iTunes from my computer after using it for about an hour or two. I realized "why am I wasting my time"? Sound Jam is far superior. This is one of those applications that I'm probably gonna just fork over the money for and get the full version (there are many more features). It's THAT good. Really.

SoundJam works fine on my old 333 iMac with OS8.6, but I miss the beautiful psychedelic visuals that come with iTunes. The graphics on SoundJam are too cartooney and not very interesting. If you have OS9, and you enjoy visuals, you will be happier with iTunes.

Sound Jam isn't a bad mp3 player. There are a lot of others out there that are a whole lot worse. The only problem I have with Sound Jam is that SoundApp, an application that plays more audio formats and uses fewer system resources, sounds just as good, if not better. Oh, and SoundApp is totally free and none of it's freatures expire in 14 days.

First of all, I'd like to say that if SoundJam is crashing on you, its not because SoundJam is messed - chances are, its because your entire system is a sloppy bit bucket! As a developer, I have ran SoundJam countless times in less-than-optimal circumstances, and it has never crashed on me. SoundJam MP Free.... what's not to love? $40 for the Plus version, maybe, but unless you're more concerned about 'skinz' than 'tunes,' I don't really see why you would even need to upgrade to the commercial version!

I have no idea whi everyone is so critical of Soundjam. It is far and away better than anything else Machas to offer. The skins are far superior, playback is great, the plug-ins are great, compatibility with Toast is awesome, and the list goes on. If someone disagrees with me, please post a review stating a better player out there. 'Till then, go with Soundjam

Ive always found SJ to be very stable and the sound quality to be on a par with everything else I have that plays MP3s3 such as QT4 or SoundApp, it gives me noticably better quality than macast beta or any of the demo versions I've tried. Its great in terms of features too, its a shame i dont like any of the skins asmuch as those available for the old MacAST. $40 is maybe a bit steep, but then again, imho theres nothing better.
