I stumbled across this plug-in by accident when I was googling for an alternative to the dimensioning features of CADtools, and I am very glad that I did. Although the interface takes a bit of time to learn, it is extraordinarily flexible and direct to use, with much use of modifiers to qualify the defaults, e.g to switch to external arrows, displaced text etc. It blows away any other dimensioning tools I have come across.

The price is quite reasonable compared to the alternatives, and the dev’s other tools are well worth looking at too. In fact together with other offerings, such as PathToolkit and SnapMeasure, they could constitute a cheaper—and in some respects better—alternative to the excellent but over-priced CADtools.

I agree, I'm pretty tempted to get this one. We have CADTools (which is pretty awesome), but I need the upgrade from CADTools v6 to v7 for Illy CS5. I don't think my company is going to do the upgrade. The only thing that I wish that this included (or if they made another plug-in) was for working in scale. Then it would be a no brainer to get this. I don't need all the extra CAD specific tools anyway. Just scale and dimensioning.

Well you can dimension to scale with JLG, and you can measure to scale with Dynamic Measure (the successor to SnapMeasure, part of VectorScribe from Astute) but you can't specify new elements to scale as you could with CADtools.

Thanks for the info! I realized that you could dimension to scale after I posted. I do need to be able to actually draw in scale though. I work in the sign industry and some of the stuff we draw is really large. Sometimes it won't really even fit at full size on Illustrator's art board. I've been working in FreeHand for a long time, which has the ability to set custom rulers. This would be ideal if it were available in Illustrator. One of the other problems the first method would cause is when a sign is revised to a totally different size and I need to change the scale of the drawing. Anyway, again thanks for the clarification.
