NewsRack was my preferred rss reader. It had tons of features, including the possibility to expand it to your own needs using applescript. As an example I used this to automatically repost news in MarsEdit. I would have given this app 5 stars - but sadly it is discontinued now. To end I want to comment on what is written on the product page: ...it's been clear for a while that NewsRack was falling behind the competition in a lot of ways... No, sir. All other competitors were behind you!

Can't complain much about the App, looks pleasant to the eye and works well. There's one mayor thing though that bothers me: The search function just searches the titles of the feeds and not the feed's content — very annoying. I emailed the dev about it if he's planning to change that, but no response. A bit disappointing.

Would be nice if you could actually delete the article in the feed.

I only bought this app because I could not wait for NetNewsWire 4 (after having tried the new NNW Lite). I have been using NetNewsWire (NNW) 3.2.15 for months now and love it! Recently, I've been trying out Reeder for Mac, Caffeinated and Gruml. Both Reeder and Caffeinated have amazing UI but lack the usability/customisability of NNW. For someone with 250+ feeds, usability takes priority over UI goodness. So, Reeder and Caffeinated didn't suit me. Then I tried Gruml. It's nice, but it's kinda slow. Surely feels like a 'beta' application (which it really is). So, no go for Gruml as well. I finally decided to try Newsrack. First things first, I hate when an app doesn't have a trial version! I want to try before I buy. Agreed this is not possible in the iOS App Store, but for Mac apps, this is surely possible! Second, the UI of Newsrack looks appealing and that is why I bought it (but mainly because I could not wait for NNW 4). So, how is Newsrack? I must say..I deleted this app within 30 minutes of using it. It's that bad. It's in no-mans land. It tries to match the UI appeal of, say Reeder or Caffeinated, and pales in comparison (except may be the article view, which is kinda good). But when it comes to usability/customisability, it sucks! Sucks big, big, big time! I have very rarely seen a paid app with so minimal preference options. I mean, you cannot even change the font size of the feed list! This is insane, stupid, ignorant and what not! You cannot have custom keyboard shorcuts. If I begin writing all the places where this app falls short on usability, I won't stop. So, end opinion. Please do not buy this app. Not unless the developer gets a trial version on its website! 6 Euros of complete waste.

Does this integrate with the iOS version at all so both devices are synced?

I am a big fan of Gruml, which I feel is quite superior to NetNewwire. I've looked at Newsrack at the App Store, but and everyone raves about its great interface, which does indeed look fine. But even in terms of interface, I don't see what advantage it has over Gruml. If anyone here has tried both, I'd love to hear why they prefer Newsrack over Gruml. Thanks! Steve

I have purchased NewsRack for my iDevices before. I completely love it. Now an app for Mac, NewsRack is replacing NNW. Very polished app for a 1.0 release.

I have been on NNW for a while, and still think its interface for browsing is near the top. (NNW does not support swipe gestures, though, for reasons that I cannot figure.) But NNW recently shipped a very buggy, weird release, so I went out looking for a replacement. I like the Google Reader sync, so I looked at Reeder, Gruml, and NewsRack. Reeder doesn't even make sense to me. Gruml's tab handling seems awkward. NewsRack seems to get most things quite right. If I could use 1Password with it, I'd dump NNW in a heartbeat.

I hadn't planned to write a review but was pretty surprised that someone wrote anything bad about this app. First off, for a 1.0 release NewsRack is very polished. I've seen apps that have been out for years that don't work as well. The UI works just as you expect it to - I haven't had to hunt for a feature or a control. Second, it's stable. What can I say, it just works. Finally, I've used it since it was released and it's great for both reading and managing my RSS feeds. I had a question early on and the developer got right back to me. Actually, he even followed up with a second email that explained why he programmed the control the way he did. NewsRack needs FB integration and I'd like to hide feeds where all the items are already read, but these aren't huge issues to me. The Dev said he was working on adding FB and I forgot to ask about the other. For $7 it's a great deal.

I don't know what to make of this new phenomenon (beginning with the recent redesign of macupdate.com) of ratings without reviews. As of this posting, NewsRack has a rating of half a star, but that's only based on the dubious opinion of "A_dev", whose comment history leaves something to be desired, and who didn't even bother to explain why he was giving the app such a low rating. See: http://www.macupdate.com/members/profile/A-dev I haven't downloaded NewsRack yet, but I read the reviews on the App Store, and I've also used other apps by this developer, and I think it's pretty clear that it's a good app. Gruml seems like a good alternative, and also includes a built-in browser, but I'm hoping someone who has purchased NewsRack can review it a bit more thoroughly---I just might be convinced to buy it.
