You can also use a free Python script to remove DRM from ADEPT-protected ebooks. The script and basic instructions are available at http://bit.ly/eo8piT or you can google "ineptepub".

Using Calibre and the plug-in python scripts, the BN encryption is easily handled with a nice GUI. I guess if you run Little Snitch or the like, you could see if this app phones home with your credit card info. I'd rather send some money to Kovid Goyal.

Removal of Barnes & Noble DRM requires that you enter your name and credit card number. Seems like a security risk.

Barnes & Noble does use name and credit card information as the encryption key in its ADEPT implementation, unfortunately. But since this is probably just an overpriced wrapper for some open source de-DRM scripts, I wouldn't trust it.

Yes $29.90 seems high for this type of app, especially so when open source scripts are available. Add the danger of this app phoning home with your credit card information and I'll pass. Regarding the python scripts mentioned by Canisbos, I keep getting errors and so far none of the advice I find online has helped.

When I go into my documents and then into digital editions, my books are shaded grey and I am unable to select them in order to convert?

See my reply above about python scripts -- I just downloaded these at the site listed by Rob and they worked perfectly (tools_4.6 then the DeDRM 2.9 app). Thanks Rob.
