At a discounted price, it looked like a bargain. After installation, I was looking at the shapes in the left, then saw a menu up at the top. I saw categories, like Network, People, Apple, without checkmarks. After selecting the categories, many new shapes appeared. If you do network diagrams, the selection in the Extended Network category are pretty incredible! There are a lot symbols for so many different network devices.

I really was in need of this software because I often had to show diagrams and similar projects to my students. Diagrammix is easy to use, works on all my Macs without any problems and does its job very good. Before years a software like this for a Mac was very expensive and now it is rather cheap. Only the update from inside the program doesn't work, but this is not a very important thing for me. I use MacOS 10.9.3.

I know this may seem odd, but there are too many minor updates all the time. It seems like every other day, it is bugging me, saying Diagrammix has an update. I know that this is probably seen as a good thing, and certainly better than tons of software that never gets updated (Apple's included), but there is a point where there are just too many small updates. I wish they would combine them together just a bit more, so maybe an update once a month. Right now, there are points where there are multiple updates in a single day. I ask Deep IT to please find a happy medium.

Positives: The canned icons are interesting. If you never create your own, or have need of special icons, this can be useful for you. If you have simple diagramming needs, its pretty fast & has no real learning curve, might be good for you. I haven’t tried creating my ones using this yet. Hotkeys for entering text, etc is convenient & easy. Being able to switch styles is nice (though the style choices are limited). It appears to keep a version of each style. I don’t know why people compare $200 apps to a $14 app as though they really are equivalent alternatives! There is no comparison between this & OmniGraffle by any stretch of the imagination, or even some of the alternatives people have suggested. Honestly, I bought Diagrammix - at discount. On whim. Then I immediately wondered why. I have better alternatives already & I’ve been reluctant after test-driving this in the past. Whim purchases (sigh). It is fine for the discount price. If it came to full price ($20), you can do better for the money, or very close to that $20. There is no vector option for export. That costs an extra $5 which, at full price - puts you in iDraw’s ballpark, or can be had in TouchDraw.

App Store does not have version 2.7.1. Developer's website lists 2.7.0 as current version as of 06 Oct 2013. What happened to 2.7.1? (I note that version mismatches are becoming more frequent of late, which greatly reduces the value of MacUpdate Desktop. Is anyone at MacUpdate responsible for making sure that version numbers of updates are correct?)

One week later, nearly three weeks since the date given for the last update, and no change to this listing. The change log listed on this page as being version 2.7.1 matches the developer's site's change log for 2.7.0. Please fix this listing! Obviously the current version is 2.7.0, but it got entered here as 2.7.1. Why is this so difficult for MacUpdate to get right?

Because there are constant updates, sometimes with multiple updates in a single day. Maybe it simply got overlooked. I don't think it was done out of malice.

At the point when I originally posted this, back in October, updates to Diagrammix were not being released that frequently. That should be evident from my comment that the date listed for the update was three weeks prior to my post. So "constant updates" was not an issue at the time. More importantly, my issue was not that an update got overlooked, but that the version numbers didn't match. MacUpdate has greatly improved in that regard since that time, but last fall, I was frequently finding apps where the version number MacUpdate Desktop said was current didn't even exist, and the developer's own listing gave a different (usually lower) number as current. This included not just apps from small developers like this one, but things like the Google Earth plugin. I was pretty diligent about submitting version mismatch reports when I found those cases, but it was rare that it would get corrected for any app until the next update was released. So my two posts here were motivated by frustration as much as anything else. And my frustration was more with MacUpdate Desktop, which pulls its information from the same database that generates these web pages, than with the web listings. MUD isn't very useful if it doesn't have correct information about the version number—it will either tell me there's an update when there isn't, or it will fail to notify me of an update that exists. When I'm paying an annual subscription fee for that service, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect it to be correct to a high degree of accuracy. If it was just about the listing on this web site, it wouldn't bother me so much. I never asserted that any of this "was done out of malice"—that would be asinine. Just because I am vocal about a problem doesn't mean that I think they're doing it specifically to tick me off. I know that mistakes happen. My problem was with the high number of mistakes happening at that time and what I consider unreasonable delay in fixing them once they've been pointed out. If I could fix them myself, I would, but this isn't a crowdsourced database like IMDb or Wikipedia. At any rate, the issue with frequent version mismatches has since been resolved at MacUpdate's end, so this isn't significant anymore. Do you have a particular reason for replying now to a complaint made seven months ago about a version that now was superseded several updates ago?

Honestly, I did not know that the question had been answered or that anything was any different (no update in the comments thread). I was just trying to be nice and see if my reasoning would offer any help or understanding. I certainly was not trying to irritate anyone. My apologies for the wording, phrasing, etc. I guess I was just trying to help. I have learned my lesson.

Sorry, I guess I came off a bit harsher than I thought I did. That's what I get for responding at 1 in the morning after being sick. I didn't update my comment here because the issue with this app wasn't really "resolved" per se—it just was made irrelevant by the next update. The larger issue with MacUpdate's version mismatches is a long-term ongoing problem that never has been answered by anyone at MU. I've simply noticed that they're much better about it than they were last fall. I apologize if I came across as accusing or attacking—that wasn't my intent. I was just trying to say that the real issue wasn't specific to this app, and I was genuinely curious as to why someone would respond to an old comment. That's all.

I recently downloaded this app via "appyfriday" and it installed fine. Tried to load stencils via the "graffletopia" site and was not successful at importing them per the instructions. I emailed the developer who was fantastically quick and very focused on making sure my problem got solved and that I was happy and productive using this app as soon as humanly possible. Together we did a bit of trouble shooting and back/forth in screenshots, suggestions, procedural steps, etc/ Long story short, we found a solution but are both still scratching our heads as to why the issue came up in the first place. Bottom line: I got a work around, he got a new bug to investigate and that will improve the app. This app my not have all the bells and whistles of OMNI Groups offering, but its a fraction of the price and does what I need it to do. Best of all the developer clearly cares about a good app and a good user experience and that alone makes the experience 1st rate. Way to go Igor!

Just a well thought out, beautiful app that just raises the bar for "ideas and bubble," chart flows diagrams. Used in conjunction with Art Tex 2 ...and probably any other gfx application of your liking, this is just gorgeous, powerful, synergy. It may have been "flaky "in the past , but that was the past, this is now and this is one app all your creatives will love. C.J.

Amazing developer response to my queries. I've contacted him three times- with clear, complete responses within 3 hours each. Can't compare to more expensive programs- however, it does what I need fairly intuitive. If I were to improve- I would make the PDF version of the manual downloadable from the program. It offers much more detail concerning how the program works than the online manual. Further, I would make the program naturally expand beyond 1 page when working on more lengthy diagrams. The enlarge this portion of the diagram is not intuitive. All in all- highly recommended- and, a good way for a novice to start learning how to do their own diagrams.

I had to blitz them with 6 extra E-Mails which got the response. The fix is as follows To solve this issue, please, close app and remove "~/Library/Application Support/Diagrammix", "~/Library/Preferences/ru.DeepIT.Diagrammix.plist", "~/Library/Saved Application State/ru.DeepIT.Diagrammix.savedState". You can use menu Go - "Go to folder" in the Finder to access those folders. Copy and paste paths. If you have imported elements copy to safe place imported files from "~/Library/Application Support/Diagrammix/Notations/Imported" before removing folders above or repeat importing. Then restart the app and input your registration data again. I did not have to reregister - it came up as already registered. After communication difficulties, all is resolved

Much improved interface, great! Choice of arrowheads in the connectors could be better though. Now there's one open type arrowhead and three indistinguishable pairs of others. I'd like to see more variety, for example a pretty flat triangle (wider than high) and one with three equal sides. Also a very urgent request for the arrows (shapes). They now only have adjustment buttons for the length, but I would love to see they can also me adjusted in the width. That would extremely speed up making fast diagrams for quick use, like in brainstorming / mindmapping, or quick explanations in a classroom. Thanks, Max

Looks like the amount of arrow-shapes could be cut into half, as all arrows can be turned 360 degrees. While a see a slight shade-difference, imho this very small difference makes choices unnecessary diffuse; the power of the program is simpleness! Btw, it's also not possible to change arrows with shade 1 into an arrow with shade 2. Maybe the same is true for other forms. Also, for me differentiating 'shapes' and 'flowcharts' seems not useful. Alternatively, if there would be a library from which one could choose the forms that will actually show up in the left sidebar, that would ease things quite a bit. I now first drag the 'sampleforms' I am going to use to my workboard, as if a library...

Suggestion: right-clicking on a shape should not show 'show context menu' but instead should immediately give access to 'text', shapes', 'connections' and 'color'. Or, alternatively, 'show context menu' should also give these choices by an extension-arrow.

The instructions are fair to poor . Depending on the category . Good on some . In the alignment instruction you are not told that the items have to be selected / highlighted first . Adding bend to connector was pathetic . I finally figured it out . In this section why is the ALT key referred to ? On Macintosh has OPTION key . If I taught firearms instruction the way this is presented I would have people shooting themselves in the foot . In my mind and experience this is not intuitive . Maybe I'm slow or could it be that the thinking process of the Brits is just different than Americans ? Or is it the Russians ... all the team names are Russian but there is a fish on the Tutorial page with a Union Jack for a background . In any event I think I will buy it ... it is simple in design and appearance and the big saving grace is it's only $15 bucks ... if it had been $30 with the poor instructions it would be a " no go " Thanks Duncan Adams

Overall very happy with this application. I have several pro diagraming apps. I like this one the best for most cases because it is very intuitive, diagrams can be created very quickly. I will be depending on my wife to help me with maintaining our process documentation. Unlike some of the other tools it only took me two minutes to show her how to use this one. She did not get overwhelmed with this application. I think the developers have established a good balance between features, complexity, and price. The result is this application suitable for a very broad group of people. The development team has been adding new features regularly. Also, I e-mailed support with a question last night. I got a reply early this morning. Great support!
