Use your iPad as a second display for your Mac.

Overview

DisplayPad is a cutting edge app that allows you to use your iPad as a second display for your Mac. You can extend your desktop with a wireless display that you can carry around with you! DisplayPad uses carefully tuned technology that makes it the smoothest and most responsive app of its kind. We have carefully crafted a dynamic and unique solution to make DisplayPad outperform its competitors.

Features:

  • Tap your iPad to click.
  • Two finger tap to right click.
  • Two finger drag to scroll, just like on a laptop trackpad.
  • Rotate the screen and DisplayPad automatically changes the mode of the display.
  • Position the display anywhere relative to your desktop, just like an external display.

I just found out that DisplayPad does not support system that can do Graphics Switching, such as my MBP. To work around I need to disable "Automatic Graphics Switching" option in the Energy Saver pane in System Preference, otherwise it claims that installing DisplayPad would make my system unusable... :( Otherwise, I got it working for my home Mac which does not have this switching capability, and I must admit it is a great tool with great potentials.

I'm using it with 10.9.4 (with a MBProRetina + iPad4) and it works… Wow. I'm so glad to see it works. You need to set an appropiate resolution to get the best. And yes, not fast refresh, so the optimum if you use the iPad to display "static" elements (Finder windows, text documents, palettes and so on).

Though the price listed here is .99, in appstore, they list it as 2.99 USD! This should be corrected.

This app as of 1.0.3 is not compatible with 10.9.1. I updated today only to be told DisplayPad will not run. Deducting a star until then. Overall I like this app. However, over even 802.11N networks it will sometimes disconnect. Unfortunately the only way to reconnect is to go to the Mac and pull down the menu to select it, which defeats the remote access element if you do not simply want to use it as a second screen. As a second screen, on a Retina iPad, the screen is either too low res or too high res. There does not seem to be a happy medium to allow one to accurately hit targets while giving one enough screen real estate to justify the slowdown in response. I am hoping the Dev has not abandoned it, but given the last update was almost a year ago, this might be the case. We shall see.

I'm curious, how well does the HiDPI work? I currently have iDisplay and it fails miserably at it.

I'm using it with Lion 10.7.4, MBP Late 2011 and iPad2 and it works perfectly. Nice app.

I got this a while back on sale on the App Store. Works great. The refresh is slow, so you'll want to use it for windows that don't update fast, but it does work as described and it's inexpensive.
