I've looked hard for a good data set generator. Generatedata.com is pretty good, but you can't change the order of the rows without starting over which is a deal breaker considering it always takes a few tries to get things right. Data Creator has by far the best interface but doesn't currently support custom lists which makes it totally unusable for any database developer I've ever known. Randomite has all the features you could ask for when it comes to defining data sets, but the interface is cumbersome (very cumbersome). Also, you can't save data set definition criteria as a separate document. If you want to use it on more than one computer, you have to redefine everything. Since there is no perfect tool yet available I've gone with Randomite and have really benefitted from it in spite of its odd and cumbersome interface. Unfortunately, it seems to be abandoned. When you submit a tech support request (they've got a nice system for support requests), no one answers.

Hello Tom. Thank you for letting us know there is an issue; sorry it crashes on start-up. Can you give a little more information about the computer it is running on? See you're running Leopard -- on top of that, is Intel or PPC? Does it instantly crash -- do you see a Splash screen or the registration screen? Is there a crash report or error? On the company website, there is a link for submitting issues. I'd be grateful if you could send a little more information in order to solve your crash. Once again, thank you.

Tom, forget the question about Intel or PPC -- I noticed you already listed that. The rest still stands though, I'd really like to fix the issue asap.

We found the issue and posted a fix. Randommite was re-tested on 10.6, 10.5, and 10.4. Thanks for pointing out the crash. Much appreciated!

Randommite is a powerful data set generator. Within moments, it enables you to generate large amounts of realistic user-defined data with complete control over the type, range, amount and format. Randommite's power and flexibility saves time and money; it pays for itself on the very first day of use -- especially if you utilize costly consultants.

With ease, Randommite can output records in a variety of modern and legacy formats: XML, SQL, Fixed, HTML, CSV, Grids, Variable, and Custom user-defined formats.

Out of the box, Randommite supplies the following field types for building output records:
  • Numbers (defined range of integer, decimal, hexadecimal, octal, or binary)
  • Statistical (supply a mean and standard deviation)
  • Alphanumeric (names, addresses, dates, text, characters, lottery numbers, IP Addresses, and more)
  • Sequences (define a start and incremental value)
  • Literals (static text where you need it)
  • Built-In Value Lists (50+ data lists and growing)
  • Custom Value Lists (ultimate versatility, define reusable lists containing thousands of values)
Randommite is built from the ground up for reuse. Often-used data generation settings can be saved as a favorite, and Randommite maintains a viewable usage history. This allows a new set of data to be generated any time utilizing past user-defined settings. Data sets can be quickly copied into other applications, or written to disk for reuse at a later time.

How large does your data set need to be? Whether it's a few dozen results or tens of millions -- Randommite has you covered.
