Type SMS messages on your Mac and send them via your iPhone.

Overview

SMS sender for Mac, when used in conjunction with SMS client for iPhone, allows you to type an SMS message on your Mac and send it through your iPhone.

Sending the SMS message must be confirmed on the iPhone due to security reasons - this confirmation is a feature of the iPhone SDK, in which the "SMS client" application is written.

Features
  • typing SMS messages on your Mac and sending them via your iPhone
  • sending messages to an individual recipient or to a group
  • import a group from a CSV file
  • creating message templates
  • history of sending
  • recent recipients list
  • Wi-Fi connection is used, iPhone and the Mac must be on the same network

I would use this in a jiffy if it offered the same functionality as BluePhoneElite can manage on non-iPhones (yeah, I know that Apple ties up its private APIs, so this might never happen). However, the idea that first, you need to run the app on your iPhone, THEN use this on your desktop, defeats the purpose of NOT using your iPhone. What I'd REALLY like to see is the ability to dive right into the SMS in and out box without launching any app on the iPhone. Then we would have what we previously had with BluePhoneElite - which I still miss terribly, and which has forced me to manage all SMS'es on my phone after so many years managing them on my computer.

Just to let everyone know that multi-iDevice SMS functionality will be built-in to OS X 10.10 and iOS 8. No need to pay for this app unless you need it on 10.9 and below.

It works like a charm on my Mac Pro whereas the companion software SMS client runs well on my iPhone 4. When I had a Sony-Ericcson cell phone years go, I used this developer's PhoneAgent. He is extremely responsive to my questions and is always willing to accommodating various feature requests. And, his impeccable technical support continues with SMS sender. It is true that there are other programs that do similar tasks. But, if you appreciate courteous support from a developer, I recommend this program. Due to limitations in Apple's SDK, no program running on a Mac can make the iPhone send an SMS message without user confirmation on the iPhone.

Hmmm ... Well I've tried it out. And I think it deserves come credit. Sure it's a bit fiddly - but then with fingers the size of mine typing on the iphone is very fiddly! There are other apps or services that do this - but you have to pay for them on top of what you already pay for your phone plan. If you have small, dainty & dexterous fingers or you don't spend much time at your desk with your iphone at hand, then this would probably be a pointless extra. But neither of these conditions is me, so I'm happy. Well done
