PadSync1.1.1

31 October 2011

Browse, manage, and synchronize shared iOS files.

Overview

PadSync offers easy browsing, management and synchronization of iPhone and iPad shared files.

Great apps like GoodReader, Air Sharing, Pages, 8mm Vintage Camera and PlainText let you share files with your Mac via iTunes File Sharing. PadSync streamlines this experience with simple yet powerful two-way sync.

With PadSync, your files are always up-to-date and accessible on both devices. Any changes you make are automatically synchronized the next time you connect your device to your Mac. You'll never need to manually manage files.

What's new in PadSync

Version 1.1.1:
  • Fixes an issue that could cause PadSync to malfunction if iTunes Wi-Fi sync is enabled.

Now that subfolders synch, this is perfect for managing all the PDFs I keep in GoodReader.

Great as far as it goes, but very limited in its ability to edit files and folders on the iOS device. For example you cannot edit the name of (but oddly can delete) a file or folder, or create a new folder within the file space of any app on your iPad. The free Mac app that accompanies Good Reader (GoodReader USB) is annoying in a number of ways and has not been updated in aeons, but it can do these things within GoodReader's filespace. If this functionality can be added to PadSync then I will definitely be paying for it. Until then I will stick with GoodReaderUSB despite its limitations.

Seriously flawed. Does not do two-way synchronizing of documents edited/changed on iPad with GoodReader, iAnnotate, etc. If you are looking for support for a workflow that depends on editing material on your desktop and your iPad, and keeping the work synchronized, don't depend on this.

I add PDFs attached to e-mail messages directly to GoodReader on my iPad, rather than through PadSync or iTunes. They are then refiled into a GoodReader folder. When I next run PadSync, these PDFs are not being copied back to to the PadSync folder on my Mac. Fortunately, they are not being deleted from the iPad, either. Apparently they are being overlooked.

Worked instantly for me, and is easily the best solution so far for those who need to sync files between the iPad and a Mac. I would like to be able to choose the sync folder on the Mac, but that may not be feasible, given the weird way you have to get files into iTunes.

I have my iPad from today so I am not yet at home with it. But I cannot get it to sync with Padsync. Plugged my iPad into my Macbook Pro and iTunes finds it. But Padsync not. What am I doing wrong?
