This appears to be abandonware. The developer's site no longer exists.

Hello,

I just downloaded the software to try it out, but when I try to add a record automatically, nothing happens. Any thoughts?

My apologies, I just saw the answer below. However, when I try to open the program, I get a message saying I need to upgrade my database... When I try to upgrade or backup, I just get an error message and the program shuts down...

"All Fields Required"

Really??? So if I don't know all the values, I have to enter bogus data. That means all my data has questionable integrity. Idiotic.

It's merely a safety device to prevent filling in a blank entry on accident. But as long as it isn't "nothing" then it will work. Even pressing the space bar once will suffice.

MusicCollector does what I want, including allowing many-many relationships between artists and albums (which is required for a significant number of my jazz and classical albums). It is also very customizable. It will work much better for my 3500+ LPs.

Hmmm, really? I thought I was in a Windows app when MyVinyl refused to store a record because every single value is required, without regard for whether the value is needed or even known. Yup, that's the Mac way, isn't it? Impose unnecessary restrictions on the user. ;-)

MusicCollector is pretty awesome compared to any other music cataloger I've tried. It actually works very similarly to a 4D application I wrote back in the 90s. And it doesn't care which values I do or don't add. In fact, I can repurpose a field if I want, even renaming it. Pretty user-friendly, IMHO. :-)

Downloaded to try last night. entering automatic number BST-8019 returns Discogs is not responding. Entering same number on the Discogs site returns info. what am I missing? Using macbook pro OX 10.6.6. also crashes a lot.

I kinda like this. It is simple to use and works ok.
Though the UI needs some rework regarding looks.

Otherwise promising.

Yesterday I've downloaded MyVinyl 2.15. Unfortunately the most valuable function (automatic import from Discogs) is not working. With the remaining functionality I can maintain my Vinyl catalog in Excel.

I just tried (with 2.15) to import an XML collection and it was fine.

What do you mean when you say it is not working?
burypromote
Juergenrunge replied on 27 Dec 2010
To be more specific: When adding an entry by klicking on the '+' sign and then typing a discogs Release ID I'm getting the error message "Discogs is not responding".
burypromote
Leifertin (developer) replied on 15 Jan 2011
Ah. I'm not getting that error. I'm getting no response basically, it closes the window and nothing is added. Which is not supposed to happen of course.

I'll look into that and see what is happening...in the mean time, you can use the "Discogs Search" menu item to add albums.

I found out what was happening. The progress indicator in the "Discogs Search" window was visible at startup, and the code needed it for it to be invisible. I am working on an update an will release it in a few hours when done.

In the mean time, you should be able to sidestep this by doing a "Discogs Search", selecting an item, then closing the window if you don't need it anymore. The normal "Add by Release ID" should now work until quit.

Please check your email again. I just woke up and sent you a confirmation email with your credentials.

You had no serial before this point so I have no idea what you put in as a serial number into the application. It was probably the PayPal transaction ID you were looking at, which is not the same as a serial number.

Note: Users who are starting with version 1.97 may be experiencing an error message upon adding an album using a Release ID. This error is "The variable releaseCondition is not defined." I have just been informed of this by a user and released an update (1.971). I didn't want to overload MacUpdate, so if you need that version it can be found from the updater within MyVinyl or by clicking "Visit Developer's Site" above.

If you started with a version before 1.97 then this may not even be an issue for you so you can probably ignore this update.

I really like where this app is going. I concur with previous comments about syncing with a discogs account. I am still building my discog collection on there and will import it into the program all at once when i'm finished. If MyVinyl could pull changes from my account/collections into the program this app would be priceless.

The toggle track list feature is really great. If there was a way to do the same thing with the full credits and notes from discogs that would be fantastic. It just looks sloppy and incomplete in its current location.

I'm really excited there is finally an app that has some integration with Discogs. Most people with large collections of physical media are obsessed with organization and this app def is starting to hit that niche. There is a lot of potential for this app. I anxiously await further development of MyVinyl.

Credits have been added recently. I was having trouble with two drawers so I decided to put it in a tab view with the notes.

So far, I have only figured out how to sync one-way with Discogs. This means that you can add/remove/move albums within MyVinyl, go to "Recent Activity" in the "File" menu and click "Sync with Discogs" and all of the items in the list of that window will be applied.

I just haven't come up with a way to apply Discogs changes to MyVinyl...yet.

You update your app very frequently, often times every 24-72 hours. As a policy we won't always post those updates to the main page (making the date current) so that our visitors don't constantly see the same apps on the main page.

I'm not saying this is the case with you, but many developers have deliberately done this in the past to effectively spam our site. I hope you understand -- it's nothing deliberate or limited to MyVinyl.

Leifertin (developer) replied on 09 Sep 2010
Correct me if I'm wrong but this app hasn't seen the front page (sans the 5 minutes today), since version 1.85. This was released on the 2nd of September.

I fully understand you don't want people spamming and am in concurrence with you about not front-paging it every time.

But it has been a week.

Hi, the date of the listing (Sept 6) would have been the last time it was on the page, which was 3 days ago. The next update will go on the front page. I hope this clarifies things, but let me know if it doesn't. We value all the developers we work with and I want to make sure you don't feel slighted.

Hmm...I'm not 100% on this but check if you have a "Wanted" folder in your "myVinyl" data/documents folder.

If you don't have it, create it. Relaunch MyVinyl.

Does this work?

Dbartelheim replied on 12 Feb 2011
Just checked and I do in fact have a wanted folder. It's empty. I have since deleted all parts of the MyVinyl application, re-downloaded and re-installed my album collection. It was a pain but seems to be working as of now. Thanks for your help.

This might be due to all the code being in one script.
I've split it up into 12 files now.

Please try again with a more recent version and let me know if the problem persists.

I just tested that out and found the culprit of the bug.
I've posted an update to fix this and should appear on MacUpdate momentarily.

Either that or use the updater within the program.
