Automatically save documents in the background within iWork \

Overview

AutoSave4iWork is a simple background process that checks for any unsaved documents within the iWork \'09 suite and asks their corresponding programs to save any changes.

When run, AutoSave4iWork will sit in your menu bar as a small diskette. You may click on the icon to bring down a menu and configure various options:

  • Minutes Between Saves: This option sets the time interval between saves. By default, it performs a save every 5 minutes.
  • Archive Saves: This option will create a zipped, time stamped archive of your document every time AutoSave4iWork requests a save. This will allow you to access previous versions of your documents as they are saved by this program.
  • Auto Save Enabled For: These check boxes allow you to enable or disable which iWork applications will be checked by AutoSave4iWork for unsaved changes.

What's new in AutoSave4iWork

Version 1.1.1:
  • Minor bug fix.
  • Less verbose warning box for when an unsaved document is encountered.

maybe a good idea: you include all standard macosx-applications (like textedit) and an option to add other applications which should perform an auto-save

Just take care at the Archive Saves function: you better watch close to know how it works, before you create a big mess in your folder. D

This is an invaluable little app and... I wish one thing could be added: I wish that starting up iwork would cause autosave4iwork to start up and then when I quit iwork, autosave4iwork would quit. It would be nice to not always have the menulet running especially those of us without large monitors. Besides this? Fantastic and thank you.

Thank you for the suggestion, however, this project was intended to remain simple, small, and specific to iWork. As of MacOS X 10.5 Leopard, TextEdit includes an autosave feature. It is located under TextEdit's "Open and Save" preferences. For the additional functionality you mentioned, I may suggest ForeverSave from Tool Force Software. It has features similar to what you request, and is only $15. It has also been featured on mupromo.com, so you might even get it for for cheaper. http://www.tool-forcesw.com/foreversave/
