Singlemizer is stable and fairly speedy, and finds true duplicates only. This doesn't mean it's perfect. So that you know what to expect, these are my gripes (not show stoppers, mind you, otherwise this wouldn't rate it four stars): 1) Singlemizer is not exactly easy to use, unless you know answers to "what is the UTI for a jpeg image", for example (???? - that's what I thought). A few more sliders and popup lists would be helpful. 2) Singlemizer is not fully keyboard controllable (setting the delete checkmark on individual files still needs the mouse). 3) Singlemizer compares files only. There's no option to compare contents of folders and delete the folder only if it's exactly the same as another folder. Or, if there is such an option, I have no idea how to use it. 4) For every file, the console logs "file access by '/rsrc' was deprecated in 10.4". I'm thinking scanning would be faster without that warning. But overall, the price is right and it surely beats some of the other options I've tried, especially when comparing a large number of files (10,000 or more).

I've been using Singlemizer for several years,. have tried others to get around two quirks in the interface but always come back to this one. I don't know if the developer is still working on it three years after the latest version, but if he or she is, I have two suggestions for the UI: 1) When duplicates are detected the list allows you to select any of them except the first. Could there not be a preferences option not allow us to select ANY of the listed duplicates for deletion? 2) It would be useful to be able to select the filename (basename) of any duplicate using the mouse. This would allow finding derivatives or versions of a file which are not themselves duplicates. 5 stars for Singlemizer nonetheless. The best thing about it is its clean, uncluttered interface.

Well on first impressions seems to work ok though going through on the trial and selecting all the duplicates for 30 minutes only to be told I then have to buy before I can delete them feels like a horrible marketing ploy for this reason I am not giving it a good score. Especially given the review below indicates you get a number of scans before you have to buy. Be warned you have to buy this before you can use it properly and so ifyou're not prepared to do this it will waste your time - seems a fairly good programme though still labour intensive process that has irked me.

this is an app I've been wishing for for ages, so pleased to finally have it!! I knew I had quite a lot of duplicates from old backup issues years ago, couldn't face the daunting task thinking it would take a very long time. This app cleaned them up for me in a way I feel much more comfortable with (creating aliases to the original) and in a very short time I gained back 3.67GB of wasted space on my Mac. Yay Singlemizer!! Thank you for creating this great tool.

19/20. So who doesn't want to pay less? Great Mac application that does consistently what it is designed for. Users and archivists! Anyone who maintains libraries of files.

This is the only program, that I know of, that will replace duplicates with hard links. So that is a plus. However, when it tells me that I have duplicate folders, what if I tell it to replace them with hard links? The menus do seem to offer that as an option. It would be nice to be able to select a default behavior. And if your mouse stutters on the wrong option while selecting what to do--too bad. Instead of a pull down menu that immediately executes, I'd rather see radio buttons and then some do/execute button to cause what you've selected to happen. That would be safer. Once it has run a scan, it isn't obvious how one deselects the files to act upon. It should be possible to do this, but how isn't obvious. Lastly, it really would be nice if this ran on Snow Leopard. The fact that it doesn't is very poor marketing and leaves a big opening for competition to take the prize away.

Singlemizer is an excellent and easy-to-use program with an uncluttered interface. I tried the demo versions of several de-duplicators listed here on Macupdate and found myself uncertain as to what the other programs were doing. For an application whose purpose in life is to zap files, certainty is a Good Thing :) Singlemizer has the notion of a "master" or reference folder (one whose copy is always kept when duplicates are found elsewhere). By default it's the first folder one selects for checking but one can specify it explicitly if needed. If like me one has multiple copies of files scattered over a bunch of external drives, the odd DVD or USB key, and you want to consolidate them into a single collection on your new, auto-backed-up Mac, this simple feature is vastly useful. One of the competing programs didn't have it and I couldn't really tell with the others. Singlemizer also found duplicates which one of the others didn't. It's a good choice.

I've loved using Singlemizer for quite a while now but I think version 3 is a step backward. I used to be able to exclude folders from my search so, for example, if I were scanning the Documents folder I could tell it to ignore a specific sub-folder within that which I know will always return results I don't care about (Microsoft User Data). I like things to be simple, but I also like to have options.

I really like the trial period - number of scans rather than the typical number of days. I started comparing de-dupe utilities many months ago, but didn't finish. I'm now ready to pick one, and I still have 18 Singlemizer scans left.

Downloaded trial Singlemizer and start scanning my Boot Disk (SSD). 100% CPU utilization, App not responding and after 10 minutes I have to be force closed the App. Tried it again on my Home Folder, same result! Open up AppZapper and dragged Singlemizer into it. ZAP! A properly written App should not freeze when it is busy. It should update the user on what it is doing. I will try this promising app again when the developer has fixed this issue. iMac 2008, 4GB, 120GB SSD, Mac OS X 10.7.3

Briefly, I like Singlemizer but I'm suing Singlemizer 2, not 3, because I refuse to install Lion on my Macs. It works fine, but the logic explained in the well-written instructions doesn't quite translate over to the set-up controls, thus breeding perhaps unnecessary caution in the user. Finally I just let Singlemizer do its thing. Great. One unresolved question is what to do when Singlemizer doesn't move files to the trash because "you don't have necessary permissions." Permissions for what? I believe I had proper permissions for all of the files that remained (most of which were Mail documents), but resorted to deleting them one by one. A strange anomaly. I'm sorry we non-Lion users can benefit by the most recent upgrade. I hope it's the last time.

This lousy software TRASHED my Mac, running Lion. I paid for it and installed it just last night, and I want my money back. It ate up all the memory, ran the CPU up over 100% (how is that even possible?), and ruined the networking. That is completely broken now. This software is garbage.

I have deleted close to 80.000 duplicates files over a couple of days. It is doing a fantastic job and you fell in total control. I had to try a couple of simulations with different priority settings. Highly recommended.

Really good. Two major feature I miss: 1. an option to trash items on the respective volume rather than the main HD - it was no fun the first time I tried to delete 1000s of files on a large external drive and the HD got 100% full. 2. better handling of deletion among a folder, e.g. an option to prevent to lose one or the other top priority file.

Excellent. This has a key feature that makes it indispensable: You can give priority to your dupe searches. So if you are searching your home and some external HD say then set home to a higher priority and the dupes that get deleted are the ones on the external. (i.e. at least one copy remains in your home). The only small feature that I'd like to see would be to have a special priority called say 9+ or infinity or something where files would never get deleted. So if I compare iTunes (9+) with say another folder and if there are duplicates *within* iTunes they wouldn't get deleted, but duplicates between an iTunes file and a non-iTunes file would. You can get around this somewhat by setting something to 9 and then ordering the results by priority. The interface is also very straightforward which makes use a breeze.

I spoke to the developer via email about three months ago. He was very helpful and got back to me straight away. I asked him why his app was better than Tidy Up. He said 'every cook praises his own broth' but listed a few advantages. Anyway, I bought it today in the half price Mazdot sale and am running 540,000 RAW images stored on an external disc through it. It is using just 4.4% of my Mac CPU and whipping through them like crazy. It has identified 100 dupes already. Tasty broth indeed!

Wow..I have tried other apps like TidyUp to clean out duplicates, but this little application really did what I wanted. I dropped a 1,7 GB folder containing 4200 items. I was prepared to let it do its thing the next 15 minutes, but after 15 seconds it was done! Next I dropped a 6.9 GB folder containing 45360 items. After 5 min it had done a great job on this monster as well, reducing 6.9 to 6.38 GB. After 15 minutes I had bought the Singlemizer.

This is a great simple to use app. that just works. I own some of the others apps. but have never been comfortable with them, maybe because they are to complicated, always afraid of deleting the wrong thing. I can highly recommend Singlemizer to any one, 5 stars in my book.

The software developer is very helpful, friendly, and (promptly) responsive; although the chances of your needing assistance or troubleshooting is virtually nil. I was Prez' of the oldest Apple-chartered M.U.G. extant. I know of what I speak.

I've used v1.0.2 off & on when I had some extra time to use it. It find duplicate jpeg's effectively among other data I've accumulated over the years. So far, I've reclaimed 834.9 MB's of space. The only thing I would have liked to see is when the list of duplicates appears the very tiny preview image could be adjusted in the prefs.. I was looking forward to future updates. Sorry to see that v 2.0.2 is now ONLY for Intel Macs with Snow Leopard. I'm a G5 ppc person with Leopard.

I have run Singlemizer again, and I have been unable to replicate the problem that I had reported. As such, I withdraw my comment, and declare that I must have been mistaken. The application works swiftly and well. If I could afford it, I would purchase it. While the price does not seem to be excessive, for individuals such as myself, who are handicapped and survive on a "fixed income" every purchase needs to be closely scrutinized. Re: ShareWare: I have always felt that software developers ought to provide a discount for those who cannot afford outright purchase.

Overall it does a good job, but there is a serious problem when it identifies two entirely different files as being duplicates, especially when one is a video .avi and the other is music (.mp3) 99% of the duplicates that it discovered for me were indeed just that - renamed files that were identical.
