Cinch overview

Cinch gives you simple, mouse-driven window management by defining the left, right, and top edges of your screen as 'hot zones'. Drag a window until the mouse cursor enters one of these zones then drop the window to have it cinch into place. Cinching to the left or right edges of the screen will resize the window to fill exactly half the screen, allowing you to easily compare two windows side-by-side (splitscreen). Cinching to the top edge of the screen will resize the window to fill the entire screen (fullscreen). Dragging a window away from its cinched position will restore the window to its original size.

If you prefer a keyboard-centric approach to window management, you might also take a look at our other products SizeUp or TwoUp. Use Cinch together with either SizeUp or TwoUp to cover both your mouse and keyboard needs.

*Exponentially* better than the native macOS Split View in every way. More intuitive (especially for getting in/out of snapped-into-place views). Doesn't force you into Full Screen mode (so you can still CMD+~ to switch between several windows in the same app, unlike macOS Split View which cripples that functionality). This is a perfect example of how it's become up to other developers to make macOS "just work" anymore, since Apple keeps making Macs harder to use.

No longer works with Quick Look windows on latest Mavericks 10.9.5. What a bummer. It was a nice, quick way to maximize the Quick Look windows to almost full screen without having to hit the built-in full screen button within Quick Look and lose access to flipping through multiple media in a folder with the arrow keys seamlessly. Hope developer can fix this. One of the only reasons I use Cinch was for this purpose.

I have used Cinch for a few months. It works on either monitor, but I haven't tried to keep something else over a cinched window. It's not a Win7 screen manager, but it is very helpful in OSX. I'd rather not try to do detailed evaluations.. come on, this is a nice little tool to make my day easer. It works.

I'm a bit uncertain about the pricing. Under "Buy" it is listed as $62 originally, now marked down to $14.99. However, under "Information" the price is given as $7. One reviewer claims to have paid $0.99 for it. This is quite a discrepancy.

Disappointed. I must be missing something: Tried Arrange briefly and expected my windows to stay where I put them and stay on TOP. Mainly wanted it for keeping Quicktime Player on top so I could watch video while doing other things, but it doesn't stay there. With VLC I can float the window on top, but not QTP. What's the point of arranging a window to a certain position if it's going to disappear when I switch apps? When I return to a window to work, I want it fullscreen, not 1/8 screen or some other miniscule size. If QTP or maybe Thunderbird would stay on top in a corner while I was working, fine, but since I must return to each one to see them, why would I want them minimized? I don't want to read my email or work with Pages or any other app in a tiny window, that's why I bought a 17" MacBook Pro - so I'd have more real estate.

I was using Divvy for windows management. But 99% of the time, I just need to work with 2 windows at the same time, so a basic split of the screen is mainly what I need. Cinch was on sale for $0.99: I tried it and quit Divvy immediately: Cinch is faster and good for my needs most of the time. $7 is a bit expensive for the basic features it offers, but it's not a big price either: for the same amount, you could have a small lunch at McDonald's. But Cinch will last much longer...

A great tool! I've had Cinch installed on my MacBook Pro for the past nine months or so, and it's been an invaluable tool in managing my windows. It's one of the features that Microsoft got right in Windows 7, and it's good to see it brought to the Mac via this tool.

The creator of this app also makes the well-known "SizeUp" Window Manger which, when used together with Cinch, turns your Mac into a power-window-switcher within itself. This specific app, "Cinch" makes Snow Leopard similar to the standard Windows 7 with window snapping. Very nice, very easy to use and great price!

Here's to offset my screwup earlier. Plus, even though I do want Cinch to allow user specified exclusions still, it was NOT cinch's fault that angry birds went haywire. It was another app called Warp that doesn't have user-specified app exclusions.

Once again, really, really wish you could exclude apps yourself instead of relying on the dev for everything. Lot's of other apps I use allow for this including some free ones. Why not this app I paid for? For example, would really like to exclude Angry Birds but I can't and it hinders gameplay. So I have to completely shut down Cinch when I play. Which sucks when others play it on my computer, because I have to sit there and shut down Cinch or show them how. Dude... let us exclude apps ourselves too!!!

I find all of these pointless on my MacBook Pro I just use spaces and mouse gesture to activate it. As for on my MacPro a 30" screen I find it quicker just to position windows myself. YMMV. These are all cool but I never seem to use them. I hate auto snapping my windows and as for divvy and a little grid it is just as quick to resize the window yourself. Maybe I am using them wrong...I find it slows me down not speed me up. I suppose these are love or hate things.

I actually really love this app. The first time I saw that Windows 7 could do this I always wished I could use this feature on my mac. However, in order for me to be willing to pay for this app (which I will be doing) I need one thing fixed. Whenever I snap two windows side-by-side they seem to overlap just a little bit. This gets sort of annoying when it disrupts the view of the other window. Fix this problem, and I will pay for this app hands down. Nice job.
