I'm unclear on one point: This is a remote desktop client, like Microsoft's Remote Desktop app. Does it require the Parallels RAS running on the server end? Or can it connect to any server offering RDP (e.g. Linux running xrdp)? If the former, it isn't useful as a standalone, and the Parallels RAS is a subscription service costing a minimum of $99/yr for 15 users.

I'd used this on occasion for standard RDP for years, since it was 2X RDP, but switched to it full time once CoRD became obsolete under El Capitan. Nothing has yet to replace the beautiful CoRD simplicity of connections drawer + unified window, but I like how this simply lists the connections in a tight palette, so at least that part comes close. And I like how you can export and import settings easily. However, a couple of HUGE downsides: 1) No template or global default preference change or copying existing connection to a new one. So if you want custom settings, like most people, you'll have to do it for each and every single connection you set up. PITA 2) Sometimes it hangs trying to login to some of my W2k8 R2 server VMs, It just stalls on loading profile, never loads desktop. No other RDP clients have a problem with those servers, so I have to switch to another client when that happens. This one is kind of a deal-breaker. I'm not sure if Parallels is actively developing the standard RDP functionality of this anymore (vs the main Parallels RAS client functionality), but I hope so. I hope they'll improve it. Because I hate the giant connections window of Microsoft's RDP Client. All I want is the simple UI of CoRD. :-(

By far the best Mac RDP client I can find. CoRD is great as well -- but this unified printer (driver) thing is awesome. No more setting up matching drivers on the server, opens PDFs directly on your desktop when "Print to PDF" is used. Wish i could automatically have my settings saved to Dropbox so i could use the same ones on all my Mac's. I wish there was a preference for all new connections that I can set.

We use the 2X Client to connect to a Microsoft RDP Server. It handles load balancing a lot better for running multiple virtualised desktops. One thing that is a little annoying is the Mac version doesn't seem to allow Windowed mode when connected to a virtual desktop and always wants to start on monitor 1 if you have more than one screen. At this stage I prefer Microsoft RDC on the Mac because it allows a bit more control but this is advancing quicker than RDC. There are some further instructions here detailing connecting to an Application Server. http://www.2x.com/applicationserver/as_manual/2XApplicationServer-Installi-4.html
