Edit meta information of PDF files.

Overview

PDF MetaEdit is a small application for editing meta information of PDF files.

Important: PDFTK has to be installed, not included! You can compile pdtk with darwinports or download a ppc installer from my site (so keep in mind to install rosetta when you use 10.6)

Usage: You drag&drop you pdf files onto the application's window and edit each files meta data. Beside creator, author and subjec, keywords can easily be added to the files. This is way easier than within Preview or Adobe Acrobat.

Why?: The trick about it: spotlight indexes the keywords stored in each PDF files, so it helps tagging/organzing your PDFs

What's new in PDF MetaEdit

Version 0.2:
  • Just a little fix, so that everything is saved correctly... Now the updated pdf will overwrite the "old" pdf-file for sure =)

This could be handy. However, the link at macupdate currently goes to an empty white page... the developer's site does have a download link, but the site is in German... To get this to work, you need to install a bin, and though there is a working one for 10.6, you must be able to compile one for your version of OSX, and there is some issues with incompatible libs for some versions. --Good luck ^_^

This should be a GUI for pdftk (pdftoolkit) ... but even with pdftk tools it doesn't work at all :-( So if you have to manipulate PDF it's much better if you install just pdftk using it from Terminal. URL http://www.pdflabs.com/tools/pdftk-the-pdf-toolkit/ You can get help and examples from those pages. In particular: to add or to update pdf metas you should output a file .txt with its meta: $ pdftk in.pdf dump_data output out.data.txt Then edit the file "out.data.txt" adding meta and save it Then import the data (saving a new pdf): $ pdftk in.pdf update_info out.data.txt output in_Updated.pdf That's all.
