Mahjong In Poculis is a free Mahjong game with over 120 levels and a quick startup process.

The game comes with 6 fun themes, and for each one: 50 layouts and 5 medals to win.

There are 3 playing modes:
  • Child: you can select all the identical tiles whether they are on layout borders or not.
  • Standard: only border tiles can be selected. Once you have no more possibility for association, tiles are shuffled to give you a second chance.
  • Expert: the same as Standard mode without a

Version 5.03:

Note: 4.3.1f1 is the version number reported in Finder; it is a reflection of the app's Unity Player runtime version. The developer refers to this version of the app as 5.03.
  • Thanks to Steve's feedback, I have made a new release to avoid a bug for Mac. The bug comes from the used technology that put files into a temporary folder that is deleted on each OS X update, making players loosing their scores. I did a workaround and I highly recommend every one to update to the new version.
  • The technology used to make the game has disabled the webcam functionality in their latests builds so you can't take photos anymore. I'll make a new release when it is available again.

Yes, it is, but this is good for the kind of game it is. As I recall, it was popularized by Microsoft in one of their early game packs as Shanghai or Taipei.

Yes, the original Mahjong is a very different and complicated game, which most people will probably never play. However, the word use has changed to include Shanghai type games, so you are going to drive yourself crazy if you can't accept that. It also doesn't seem fair to knock down a game because you don't like how they named it (especially since they are using a well known convention).

Crashed first time out. I did get a code by donating before I ever tried playing. I'm hoping this was just a fluke, but will try playing later. I'll leave a better review if it improves next time out.

This game is the best Mahjong Solitaire that I've played on Mac, but it is more like donationware or shareware. From the developer's site

"With this code:

you will be able to play all the layouts using your favorite theme!
you won't be redirected to this website anymore on game exit."

And every time I quit the app I get bumped back to boards I've cleared several times.

The Developer answered my eMail right away and fixed the problem. This is a great app and well designed. I find it to be excellent in every way with a very responsive developer.

It fails to launch. Using A Macbook Pro with 10.5.8. Tried to launch it 3 times and then trashed it.

Beautiful graphics and pleasant Chinese background music. Takes me back to Mac0S 8/9 when I had a similar game. Really pleased to see this here on 10.6
A real must have for 'solitairians'.

Just for the record, "Mahjong" is actually a four player game similar to Rummy, except with tiles instead of cards. These solitaire games are merely amusements that other people came up with on the side. Ticks me off that everything on MacUpdate claiming to be Mahjong is just solitaire.

It is good to know the facts but some don't want to know. I have never played the real game but I love the computer solitaire version. It is bubblegum for the brain.... no special talent required.
