Find and eliminate duplicate files on your Mac.

Overview

Decloner helps you find and eliminate duplicate files on your Mac. It uses SHA-1 algorithm to reliably determine if files are identical. Decloner has a simple straightforward user interface where you only need to choose where to scan, and Decloner will find duplicate files in those locations and all the subdirectories. You can scan multiple folders, iPhoto and Aperture libraries. Decloner then will show you the found duplicates and help get rid of them safely. Decloner never deletes anything permanently. All removed files are moved into the Trash so you can always restore them if you change your mind. The unique virtual Decloner Trash acts as a staging area for the files you remove before they are actually deleted. When determining which files to delete, you can see their information and use QuickLook to examine the contents just like you would do it in Finder. You can define file name exclusion patterns, and ignore small files. Decloner can process large number of files on internal or external disk drives. For your convenience Decloner includes Sparkle auto-update feature.

What's new in Decloner

Version 1.6.3:
  • Fixed partial file name filters. For example, if you add a filter ".jpg", files that have the string ".jpg" anywhere in their file name will be skipped during scan.

This is a great little app. It doesn't have all the ten thousand options like some of the other duplicate file finders do, but it seems to be more accurate with what it DOES find. Very simple, fast, and helps unclutter my computer. Thanks. :)

Nothing in the description, video or dev’s website says if this will filter images by file size and highlight the biggest ones.

I used to have similar problems too, but after using "DuplicateFilesDeleter" everything was solved. Try this software and you would be glad you did, there are many ways in which you can sort the randomized files in the hard disk.

Unfortunately the algorithm Decloner uses doesn't seem to be very reliable. I tried with some variants of different audio samples that had been worked on and saved under new names and it tended to erroneously lump these together even though they are distinctly different in content. They do have same size and dates because they share the same origin, so maybe Decloner puts too much emphasis on meta-data. Some of my duplicate mp3 tracks in iTunes it identified correctly, but I already have a specific itunes duplicate app for that. I can't use this as my duplicates are in the thousands and looking trough and verifying them all after Decloner have selected these simply takes too much time.

I've been searching for (but have't found yet) an app that finds and shows duplicate folders (according to their content) separately. I probably have many folders containing the same files, but I'd like to identify those folders in the first place, instead of going through an endless list of all duplicate files within those folders. Does this work with Decloner by any chance? Or does anyone know an app with such a feature? I'd very much appreciate any help or hints that could help me further ... thanks in advance!

As far as I know, Decloner can only identify file duplicates, not directories. There is a handy app from the list of a similar software, called Singlemizer. The latest Singlemizer version is capable of finding duplicate folders. It compares them on the basis of a nested files contents, not names. Try it yourself by downloading trial at singlemizerapp.com Hope it helps!

How do I remove a folder at the top of the app? I accidentally selected the Pictures folder instead of the iPhoto library. Also, will this work to find duplicate email messages?

D/l v1.4 and does all it says and efficiently and very quickly compared to old utes I've tried to persevere with. Functionally very good, yet to try on grand scale (>10GB multiple archives etc.) but should be on everyones list if you collect stuff. Question is, higher value or better to get more users @ say 5-10$ per bang? A hobbled version of uses will only encourage piracy/ abuse issues I guess. mv apr12

Wonderful little app! I downloaded Decloner for fun as it was 50% off on MUPromo to see how many duplicated files it could find on my hard drive. I knew I had severals but nothing alarming. Well, Decloner found for about 15GB of duplicates! Sometimes, I could have 5 times the same file in different project folders. Lots of MP3s already in iTunes but still wandering around in various folders. Buying it was a no brainer! It’s easy to use and pretty fast. You have Trash, Reveal in Finder and QuickLook buttons next to each file names, which is very handy. It would be nice to be able to see the date of the files on the main interface (with size, count and total) instead of having to select each file to see it. Being able to slide the size, count and total all the way to the right to see really long file names would be my second request. But be aware: it fragmented my hard drive severly after I deleted much of those duplicated files. The drive was spinning constantly and everything was dead slow. TechTool Pro 5 arranged that perfectly tough. So maybe get yourself TechTool or iDefrag if you have gigabytes of useless duplicates like me.

Version 1.2 is currently crashing on me while the scan runs but the dev has been very responsive in email. I'm thinking a fix won't be long. Alas, it does seem DeCloner is kind of slow but I like that it uses SHA1 to identify dupes. Very secure/trusted means.
