Video Monkey is a Mac-only application for the conversion of video between a variety of formats. It borrows concepts from the great, but now defunct, Video Hub software.
What's New
Version 0.16:
  • Now requires OS X 10.7 or later.
  • Switched to themoviedb.org v 3.0 API. Movie metadata searches work again. It's faster and doesn't hang, too.
  • Fixed bug where switch between themoviedb and thetvdb would not do a new search.
  • Added a check box to turn off the feature of snapping the video size to a 16 pixel boundary.
  • Removed DVD Image as an output format. I've decided that feature is out of scope for Video Monkey. DVDs are so 5 years ago.
  • Fixed bug where movies were getting placed in the Home Video category when adding to iTunes.

I had been struggling to find a simple and inexpensive way to convert a collection of large .vob files to .wmv format. This freeware gem did a quick job of it, and the results were of excellent quality.

It seems incredibly slow compared with Visualhub.
VideoMonkey - 2 hours to convert an avi to Apple TV

Visualhub - 20 minutes

I love this programme.
Gets me out of trouble no end of times.

Just wish I could convert to DVD. When I convert to mpeg Toast tries to re-encode the file.

But apart from that excellent.

I've found that converting to mpeg works best when dropping it on to Toast to then convert to DVD.

Please note..

This version is also 64 bit only, which makes it much faster, but requires Snow Leopard to run.

I've been fighting the good war (?) to convert a .mov to a .wmv for a few days (moving away from mac is not always a choice.) I tried QT pro but it cut the end of my video - where it shouldn't be cut - no matter how short or long it was. I tried VM and the options to convert to .wmv etc were disabled, so emailed Chris who very quickly got back to me with where to download from (monkeyvideo.org) and what (v0.12).

Et voila! After two days struggling to get ALL of my .mov into a.wmv, with MV v0.12 it's been job done in minutes.

Thanks MonkeyVideo, keep it up!

As of today there is now no link to the devs website from MU - you can find the website over at cnet, but every download link has now been disabled.
No wonder the dev has gone when trolls here call hard working developers bastards. Macupdate is going to the dogs allowing comments such as that given by Grhsvo to stand.
Why can't these people stick to the porn sites where they usually hang out?
Why oh why flame a dev here on MU when it is more constructive to contact him one to one and point out any issues you find?

When I try to download the Video Monkey app, it says that I am denied access to this download from this server. How do I download this?
