Stickies-like notepad with organizing and security features.

Overview

SpiralBound is a note utility modeled after a spiral-bound notepad with organizing, security, and calculator features.

You can flip, tear out from, or return pages to the notepad, and reorder pages as desired. A seamlessly integrated calculator will solve a mathematical expression typed into any page.

For security, any page can be rendered unreadable when the program is in the background, has been inactive for a period of time, or whenever the "lock" is clicked. You may also choose to require a password to unlock pages.

Pages are searchable by title or content, and an unobtrusive pull-down menu on each page allows for quick navigation. Pages can also be hidden, or set to float above all other applications.

To ease the transition from Stickies, SpiralBound can import your data automatically. Also, you can choose to automatically check for updates.

What's new in SpiralBound

Version 1.2:
  • Pages now auto-title.
  • Titles and Contents can now be searched together.
  • Hyperlinks can now be created on any page from within the program.
  • A quick how-to now greets first time users.
  • Windows and behaviors have been polished.

This is a user friendly, lightweight, highly functional app at a reasonable price. As an organizer, SpiralBound offers significant advantages over using either Stickies or TextEdit to jot down quick notes and keep tack of temporary miscellaneous information. An added bonus is the built in calculator which possesses the amazing ability to solve an equation nestled inside a block of text. This is one of those rare and brilliant features that I didn't even know I needed until I had it, and now I can't live without it. (Why can't my email and word processor do this too??) To top it all off, the developer offered a quick and helpful reply when I encountered a minor bug in the preferences window. SpiralBound has quickly become one of my go-to apps that I keep open all day long.

I have gone through so many note and sticky apps, I think I've tried just about all of them. I use Evernote for all my important "permanent" notes and information but am always looking for the perfect small note/sticky app. I've found that with Spiral Bound. I love how the note can be torn off the pad, or put back on, respectively. I also can't live without the Float feature ... for those times I need my notes to stay on top of my workflow. I hope to see this app continue to grow and mature. Definitely 5 stars in my book!

SpiralBound's an eminently handy, well designed and really sweet little gem of a notepad, and password protection option for one's saved notes is a big plus. The only feature that I'd like to see added is hot-key launch capability. At only $4.95 it's a bargain.

It's on the developer's website. On the home page. At eye-level in the middle of the screen.

I have been using this for several months and find it indispensable for note-taking and memo-keeping on a MacBook display. Because its icon is in my Dock I can click it up whenever I want to add info, check info, or sometimes delete info I no longer need. Among its many uses: daily record of what I've downloaded/installed/de-installed on computer; running list of user-names and passwords for new sites until I get the info properly encrypted elsewhere; running list of registration numbers and relevant info about new software; to-do list; snippets from Web that I will deal with later; and (I am sorry to say) running pages of what I will have to pay to Amazon or to Apple when the credit card bill comes in. But at least SpiralBound does the math for me! For the small price and the great utility, this is a steal! (And if you think this hasn't enough options, look at its sibling SpiralBound Pro which I use on my larger computer.) Never had a crash. Never lost info. Never resorted to censored language or hair-tearing. What else is there to say?

It's not free. The shareware fee is $5. A very nice program though.
