Sleep your Mac without draining its battery.

3.6
Based on 8 user ratesRead reviews & comments

DeepSleep overview

DeepSleep will allow your Mac laptop or desktop to sleep without using any power or drain the batteries. It saves everything to disk and stops using power completely. When you wake up your machines by pressing the power button, DeepSleep will restore everything and wake up just like you left it. It takes a little longer than normal sleep but it is a great battery saver when you know you won't be using the computer for a while. Give it a try, you will love the convenience and the extra battery life!

Super Easy to Use
  • Regular Sleep: Shut your lid.
  • DeepSleep Hibernate: Launch DeepSleep.
  • No menu, no configuration, super easy.
Features
  • Hibernates your Mac.
  • Extends the battery life on your MacBook.
  • Saves power when you are not using your desktop Mac.
  • Application can also be launched via Dashboard with the included DeepSleep Widget.
  • Mac OS X Gatekeeper ready.

Version 2.4 has been available since November 30, 2016. You can get it from the developer's site.

HOWEVER! Note that the .DMG file for v2.4 is screwed up and does NOT include the very useful Dashboard widget! If you attempt to install what looks like the widget, you'll get an ERROR message as it's merely an icon with a name on it. I've attempted to inform the developer.

INSTEAD: Use an older version of the widget. I found v1.5 of the widget works fine. v2.2 of the widget is odd in that you have to Stop/Quit Dashboard before it works. ALSO NOTE: The widget requires the app to be installed in order to work, which means it's NOT free past the trial period.

Oh and v2.4 works fine on macOS 10.12.6 Sierra. [I'm skipping 10.13.x due to its incomplete and sloppy rollout of APFS, Apple File System.]

There's a FREE dashboard widget also called Deep Sleep. It is free. The current version 1.2 works fine for me (Yosemite 10.10.3) http://deepsleep.free.fr

App works fine with my Mac but I decided not to use it because of the 27GB sleepimage file it has the system create. Problem is it still creates the sleepimage file even though app is deleted and I ran the following commands: sudo launchctl unload /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.axoniclabs.DeepSleepCmd.plist sudo rm /var/run/com.axoniclabs.DeepSleep.socket sudo rm /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.axoniclabs.DeepSleepCmd.plist sudo rm /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.axoniclabs.DeepSleepCmd Any idea how to fix this and reclaim the precious space on my SSD?

This feature is indeed missing in Lion. The reopening of the previously open applications after shutdown is a partial solution, but it takes some time. I checked it a few times now and it looks OK, after a week of stable use I'll pay the reasonable fee. One request - can the application dismount all external drive before hibernation ? This will help if I'll hibernate my MacBook Pro, and then more it to another location (I don't want to wake it up, dismount, and hibernate it again).

Yes, it's always connected to an outlet. However, it's on 24/7 and putting it to sleep or hibernation saves me some electricity and time waiting for shutdowns and restarts.

I didn't know this functionality existed until I fell asleep watching a movie on my bed and the next morning noticed the computer could recover from the total battery drain. I don't know I could control this functionality until this widget came along. Thanks for making it and thanks for making it free. Apple should include access to this function in the UI.

This widget doesn't work at all on my brand new 17" PowerBook Pro. It just closes Dashboard and ...[nothing]. At least I didn't pay anything for it.

I used this a couple times, and now my computer (13" MacBook Pro 2009) always goes to hibernation even when I do not hit the widget. How can I turn it back so my computer only goes into normal sleep when I close the lid?

Thank you for the update. I've been using this for a very long time now, and really missed not having it in Snow Leopard. I've found this widget to be the most convenient and most reliable way to use deep sleep every now and then.

I have an iMac with an external drive connected. When I try putting it into hibernation, on wake up using either this or Midnight, I get a message on wake that my external drive wasn't put away properly. I take it hibernation wasn't meant for a Mac with external devices connected.

This developer is being deceptive by omission. The process that he is talking about is called "hibernation" There are several preference panes that will permit your Mac to hibernate. Hibernation is better than sleep, if you do not mind waiting longer for your mac to awaken.
