  • Get: Download torrents and manage your files in the torrent manager.
  • Play: It's better than ever with buttons for Play and Stream right where you can see them.

Installed uTorrent with an old-style .pkg installer (which is completely unnecessary for an app like this. Then I found out why. In both Chrome and Safari it installed a SearchMe extension and changed my homepage and search engine to Yahoo.

uTorrent installs, (without you knowing), a Firefox Addon called "SearchMe"... and also changes your Safari home page to Yahoo.
I used to use uTorrent on Windows long time ago, but, for now, on my Mavericks, no way.

It comes from the BitTorrent protocol creators I learned, so I guess it would be the most updated. I don't really like it usability wise, but I am just getting use to torrenting... so it might take a while.

Is this Torrent client for very advanced users? I've used FrostWire before for torrents and there you just search what you want and the options to download come up underneath. I've tried to search in uTorrent, and nothing happens!

Do you need to have the torrent downloaded already?

That blows....I haven't tried the new version yet but if it doesn't work with BTGuard I'll need to try and find an older version to revert to.

Love uTorrent…it is my go-to torrent client, but the new lime green icon introduced in v1.8.3 (stable) ain't got no alibi, it is U-G-L-Y!!!

Please bring back the PRE-1.8.3 uTorrent icon, this new one really NEEDS to go! Pretty please?!?

Copy/paste the old icon into the new version. Problem solved?

Aadams77 replied on 20 Apr 2013
Unfortunately, no. The copy/pasted icon stays, but only while uTorrent is inactive. A few seconds after launch the NEW icon replaces the copy/pasted icon and remains there until application quit.

The v1.8.4 icon is the SAME freakin' ugly lime green!

uTorrent > ((Control + Click)) > Show Package Contents > Contents > Resources

Then change the icon from within the app itself. The icon stays the same unless it's downloading or uploading something because the app icon shows you the bandwidth activity on the icon itself, which can't be changed by just copying and pasting the app icon itself. You have to change all the associated icons from within the package contents. So yes... it's possible to do this... but it takes some fudging.

That sounds like a unique that only applies to... you. In what world would this app make your computer run out of space? It doesn't download anything by itself... it requires you to do that.

On startup it asks you how you want it to handle files... such as movies, documents, etc.

Also you can change the default download location in the settings... which works just fine... as I've tested it myself.

What a bizarre review.

Yes, it can make easily your system run out of space! Imagine you only have 10GB free, you download two HD movies, you think you have located your download folder to the right direction and it won't. That's not stupid at all! What's stupid is this uTorrent version.

When you load a torrent file or a magnet link into uTorrent it prompts a window, as you already know, where you can choose where the download will be located. It fails in this step, it won't be downloading to that folder neither it memorize your history destinations. It's a bug, don't give us a workaround as a obvious solution.

Updated to 0.9.3 and now have a problem - it is crushing all the times. I would love to downgrade to the previous version with which I had no problem at all! Just switched from Transmission and the only thing I miss - I can't choose the itmes within torrent as I did in Transmission. I am happy with all the rest - especially with the effective speeds of download/upload.

Well, it launches. It finds and loads torrent files. It finds the tracker. Get's peer and seed info. But then the trouble starts. Although it finds the peers and seeds, and at times connects to a few, no data goes in or out. Port is open. Even tried letting it map the port. Both ways I get a green light and functioning connection, but no data transfer. I have never seen it connect to more than 4 peers at a time and zero data transfer. I even let it sit there all night and same situation. It also does not retain preferences across relaunches. The minute you quit, all preferences are reset to stock. After using this on Wintels, I was very excited to see it in action on a Mac. Very disappointing so far. I hope they get the bugs worked out.
