Remotely wake up any one Mac on your network.

Overview

Awake... So, you have that cool Apple TV sitting next to your TV but you must always stand up to use it? Upstairs there's your media server doing his work and since your a Green-IT-Guy you won't keep it running 24/7 but you hate going upstairs to listen to some tunes in the living room? Then Awake is what you've been waiting for! Awake let's you remotely wake up a sleeping computer.

There are several WoL (Wake-on-LAN) tools on the AppStore so, what's different here?

Awake let's you setup only ONE computer to wake up. That's on purpose because most people only have one machine to wake up regularly. And with this feature you have a One-Click-Operation to perform - no fiddling with lists of computers, no searching for the right one. Just tap and enjoy...that's preety much it.

Furthermore, Awake is free! That's because I put in some ads. If you don't like this, just use it to test if your setup is WoL-capable and then buy Awake+, which has the same functionality but comes without the ads...it's up to you.

Remarks:

  • Please use this Version to test your setup before you buy any other WoL-Software.
  • Wake-on-LAN only works with computers that are connected to your router via cable!
  • Awake won't let you wake up your computer via the internet. You can do this with other tools on the AppStore.
  • Your iPhone/iPod needs acceess to the same network as the computer you try to wake.

Works great, but the constantly flipping ad at the top is thoroughly obnoxious. A feature to sleep the Mac in question would be nice too, as would a clear button in the text entry box for the MAC address. When you first fire the app up there's an address already in there which you have to manually delete.

Don't listen to these people telling you to add more features! The whole point is convenience: open it, push the button, close it. Awesome. And it's laughable to call the ads "obnoxious" -- what are you doing staring at the app long enough to care? Push the button and close it and be glad you got it for free. Jeeeeez.
