Decodes binary files from newsgroups automatically.

Overview

Tired of waiting for pictures to download? Searching for that perfect ClipArt, or Raytraced Images (or other binary file), but can't stand searching through GigaBytes of Postings? That is why the developer wrote PictureSnooperX.

PictureSnooperX is an Application that Searches UseNet NewsGroups for binary files, while you are having dinner, at the movies, or even sleeping. These binary files are usually pictures (and sometimes executables and HTML files). After finding a binary file, PictureSnooperXdownloads the file, decodes that file, and saves that file to the directory of your choice for later viewing.

Keep well away! I paid the fee to register and all this progam seems to do is crash/hang. The author does answer my emails but has not fixed the problem, and I waited 4 months! Will not refund me either... There are other programs out there. I liked the sound of this one because it kept a log of downloadedd pictures and so filtered duplicates and spam. Wish it would work. Don't get duped by the demo, it only works for a few pictures on purpose because it just doesn't last to download more!

Just received an email confirming that I will be refunded! I'd defenitely buy the software once its stable and if they produce a time limited demo and not by number of pictures downloaded.

Auto RAR Decoding. Auto YEnc Decoding. Auto Multi-part file joining. Velocity Engine Support. Auto Spam Filter. Forward/Backward File Searching. Duplicate Image Filters. Favorite Author Search, Block Authers. Auto Thumbnail Generation. OSX Look an Feel. Show In Finder, ETC. Although RAM Hungry on Old MacOS, But, once you set it up right, it runs like a charm, and almost does everything for you except view the images/movies/mp3/applications. Never crashes for me, except when it hits a bad image that Quicktime chokes on (If you try to open the last file in Preview (OSX), Preview will hang (OSX))

Once upon a time long ago, this software had much promise. The implementation though left much to be desired, it is slow and crashes often. Updates don't happen often either. Probably a catch-22 as not enough people register because of the state the application is in (it is not worth $35 in its current form). Funny thing is that even at this rating, it still yields more usable decoded images than Newshunter/PixNewsLite. I personally just use a terminal app called brag now. It surely isn't userfriendly but that thing can download/decode many times faster than any of the current crop of Mac automated downloaders.
