Speedy

4.0.4
06 April 2014

Fast and efficient Spotlight alternative.

Overview

Speedy Mac is a little strip that brings you the power to quickly find everything you need for your everyday work: documents, folders, applications, and sites. Speedy Mac also sports multiple text Clipboard capability.

Recent documents, recent folders and recent applications:

  • Open Speedy Mac's menu: you will be pleasantly surprised to find listed there all the documents, folders, and applications you used recently. In this way opening and re-opening an item will be a task you can do in a flash and you won't have to be closing windows in your Mac for fear of losing them.

Favorite documents, favorite folders and favorite applications:
  • Are you dreaming of a world where you don't need to continuously search for the same documents, the same applications and the same folders buried in your hard drive? Speedy Mac gives you your items tidily listed, ready to be opened.

Recent and favorite sites:
  • Tired of searching in the clutter of web histories of your browser for a web page you recently visited? Well, we have something for you: Speedy Mac lists your recently used web pages, grouped by site. In this way you will quickly find a page you visited lately. The same applies for the favorites pages: every entry is automatically placed inside its own site group.

Recents and favorites text Clipboard:
  • Speedy Mac also sports multiple text Clipboard capability. Just choose the needed text item from the Recent Clipboard menu and it is ready to use from the System Clipboard, ready to paste. For frequently needed text phrases, simply add them to Favorites, and use the handy Favorites Clipboard Menu to quickly copy them into the Clipboard, ready paste anywhere. Perfect for using multiple text phrases over and over.

Task Menu:
  • There are things you always dreamt to do with your Mac but you didn't have courage to ask: hide or quit all running applications at once, create a folder establishing the name and the location of it before to create it, eject all removable and external disks at once, quickly open a web page regardless of the incredible number of other windows are covering your first web browser window... well, now you can do it: the Task menu of Speedy Mac is here to fulfill your wish. And, if your desire is not satisfied by the available tasks, you can create a new one in minutes using Automator or AppleScript Editor.

Current Item Path:
  • How many times have you used a document and then you wonder where this document is located in your hard drive? How many times do you need to open the folder that contains an opened document to find another one you know is located in the same folder? Well, the Current Item Path menu of Speedy Mac is for finding the location of the document you are using by just opening a menu item.

Umm, most of the features here are built in to OS X and have been for some time now. Recently used apps & docs? Check "recent Items" in the Apple menu. Easy access to favorite stuff? Try using the Finder's Sidebar. Drag something in there. Current item path? Control-click the name on the title bar of a Finder window or Document. I suppose if for some reason you need all this stuff in one place and are willing to pay $27 to do so, then this is not a redundant application.

Speedy was discontinued in 2015 and is no longer supported by the developer. The last version was 4.0.5. You can download the last version at: http://apimac.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/4000061632-where-can-i-download-a-previous-unsupported-version-of-your-software- The developer still has a FAQ page for Speedy at: http://apimac.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/folders/263233

Hmm. Having just seen this on the MacHeist bundle, I became quite curious as to A) why this app hasn't seen updates for a while and B) why this app has not received any relatively recent reviews. From a quick look from the screenshots and features, it seems that perhaps this app might be the replacement I've been wanting for Quicksilver, Essentials, Default Folder X and Spotlight. I've really wanted an app that combines all of these into a quick cohesive single keystroke invokable tool and this *appears* to hit that sweet spot. Anyone else with any feedback on this? I think I'll be buying the bundle, in large part, out of my curiosity for this little app and if I do I'll be sure to drop some feedback here if there's anything truly noteworthy.

This is a very neat app, but it's a vampire. It starts small and continues to use more real and virtual memory. In just minutes it demands almost a whole gig of memory. Turn it on and watch in Activity Monitor. It's unreal. How did this ever get out of their QA department!!?!! I'm hoping that they will fix it so I can use it again.

Looks like they've dropped the price to $7.99 on their web site and the Apple App store. Also, the developer is Apimac.

Isn't this application almost identical to FinderPop (which is free)? After looking at it shortly it appears to be very similar to FinderPop plus the (certainly useful) ability to create shortcuts for all sorts of items.

Terrific navigation tool. I miss MenuStrip and this does most of what that did. Having scattered features everywhere (or "somewhere") may be the "OSX Way" but it is frankly stupid and inefficient. But then that fits some people.

clearly no leopard user would want or need this. it must be intended for tiger 10.4.11 users.

Thanks for these tips! Current item path? Actually, it should be holding down the COMMAND ( ⌘ ) key, then click the mouse button, not Control-click. : )

Seems like both Command & Control work, at least on 10.6.

@Gcoghill, I can confirm that OSX versions caused the difference. I was on 10.4.11 and only Command ( ⌘ )-click works for the current item path. : )
