I cant seem to get it to accept my license file after updating to 9.7, Ive tried downloading it again from the developers website, removing my MacBook Pro from the license and trying again, still shows only 5 downloads left after restarting the app.

Guys, dont pay for this app. Download extension "FlashTo HTML5". With him direct download youtube video. Click with M2-Button in video ....download video in mp4 format and high resolution 720p ;-)

What makes you think that "FlashTo HTML5" can DOWNLOAD videos?

I would think that would be an important feature the developer would want to mention, yet they do not.
The screenshot shows the preferences window, and there's no download options, only quality options.

I think it may a sort of cat and mouse game with API's as we see apps in this class working perfectly and then with a browser upgrade, a tweak to YouTube, etc. and one of them breaks. That is the present status for me with iTubeX 9.6 running in Safari 7.0.2 (latest public version) on Mavericks. Hoping for a fix soon. Thanks.

The new version seems less stable than the ones before. And the restart is a three-step affair to reconnect functions.

The lack of an ad-blocker is a serious issue. iTubeX is an aggressive seeker after content and in my experience, at least 20% of what it retrieves are ads. Seems it was more selective before,

Some of the crashing had to do with settings in the Preferences, which I reset to Factory Default. I'll retry preferred settings when I have a moment.

I was looking for a way to add ad-blockers to iTubeX as extensions, but iTubeX, though built in a Safari framework, is not Safari. It's a special-purpose browser, resembling prior versions of Safari in its mid -2000s days. Is there a way to update the browser that would permit using value-add extensions, etc.?

The essential problem is not fixed. That is - when you push "Download" button iTubeX shows you window with selection of 280p or 320p or at best 480p, no matter the original YouTube excerpt one wants to download has settings for 1080pHD!? This problem has appeared in the previous version as well and Developer couldn't fix it as well.
Well?

Version 9.6 is a version that fixes a download problem that started occurring a few days ago. You are right that iTubeX currently does not allow you to download resolutions higher than 720p HD (you should be able to download in 720p HD, instead of the 480p you mentioned). The reason for this is that YouTube has stopped offering .mp4 files in resolutions higher than 720p HD.

To allow downloading higher resolutions than 720p HD, a major structural change has to be made in iTubeX. This is something that requires more work and therefor will be implemented in iTubeX 10. I hope to be able to release version 10 soon; hopefully within a month or two.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

"YouTube has stopped offering .mp4 files in resolutions higher than 720p HD." This is not true.

I'm using the app 4K Video Downloader to download 1280p videos.

@Bdkennedy1 I'll need to go into technical details to explain what I meant, but I'll do my best:

- YouTube offers .mp4 files (containing both audio and video) up to 720p HD. These files used to go up to 4K, but those are no longer offered. This is the source used by the current version of iTubeX.

- YouTube has moved to a new method for buffering and playing videos. Audio and video are now in separate files so buffering can be optimized. The video-only files go up to 4K at this moment. In iTubeX 10, this method will be support so you'll be able to download at the highest resolution available.

Hopefully I've explained it in an understandable way. :)

Works great! When I changed computers I was easily able move my license to the new machine through the developers site. Sometimes I have had trouble when there are multiple videos on the same page (I wonder if the app works with ClickToFlash - anyone?) but it seems to have gotten better in the latest rev.

First of all, I love this program - best You Tube downloader I've used. But recently I have run into a big problem that I can't seem to fix. The mp3 files will only open in Quicktime and not in iTunes. One fix I read on the net was to repair files in mp3 scan & repair. When I drag the file it says its an unknown file type. When I get info on the file and compare it to another file I have downloaded successfully using iTubeX, all the info is the same. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling, rebooting, verifying/repairing permissions, and even repurchasing a new license. I'm at my wits end! I have spent hours trying to fix the issue and nothing has worked. Don't get how one day it worked fine and now it doesn't. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!

I am aware of this problem (which seems to occur after updating to Mac OS X 10.6.8) and it should be fixed in the next release of iTubeX (9.0), which will probably be available a few weeks after Mac OS X Lion is released.

Note that there is a temporary solution that should make it work again: simply enter 'test.mp3' as the filename and after the download and converting is completed, rename it to whatever you want in the Finder.

By the way, for development news you can follow me at Twitter if you want to:

You cannot install iTubeX 'in' Firefox. iTubeX is a separate application. You can however drag the included Bookmarklet to the bookmarks bar in Firefox to allow easy access to iTubeX.

Ahem... My computer is probably cursed by some voodoo wizard, but none of the versions I tried of iTubeGrabber, iTubeX Ultimate and some other grabbers have ever worked for me without crashing or else...
Until I discovered Tooble today! (thanks to ROBERTCOOGAN2 who mentionned it, see iTubeGrabber's reviews)
It's not a viewer and its interface is not very stylish, but at least it wooooorks! (and nevertheless, it's free!)
As for the browsers/viewers, you might try MacTubes or Minitube.
(I still have to try Youview and FLV Spider)

Ok... I have to answer myself: MacTubes can also download movies, but you have to dig a little to find the function and then to try which codec it can download.
As for a browser only app, Minitube is very efficient and simple.
Youview is not bad but to have the download working you have to pay! (Waow, what a freeware! ;-)

Yet another self-reply... ;-)
Ok, after trying all that I could find around, here's my verdict:
Minitube is the best for browsing but doesn't download.
Tooble is nice but lately there's always this "Pro" ad at start...
So I came back to MacTubes, which is probably the best compromise and FREE.
It's absolutely insane that paying apps don't work while free ones do!!!
