I know that Amazon has just about the easiest, most navigable website on the planet, but I have to say I really like this little app. It's got a great, simple interface and the way the multiple panes are set up make the program a real pleasure to use. The program makes a lot of information instantly available, by categories, in a visual way that my web browser can't. If I know what I'm looking for exactly, or just want to just zero in on a specific product, of course, I use my browser, but if I want to broaden my horizons or just browse to learn what's available in terms of something I'm looking for, then I much prefer this program. YMMV, but I think this is a great tool to have and best of all, it's just plain fun to use. Oh, and it's frickin' free!

I really can't see how using MacAmazon is any better than going directly to Amazon.com
and searching for what I want there.
I've never had a problem navigating my way around Amazon's site.....it's pretty simple to do.

Awesome browser for shopping! I loved my experience buying the best songs on the selected category. I always felt lost at large music stores being unable to find something, because of the huge amount of CDs and DVDs. With Mac Amazon Browser I just selected a category I liked, clicked on the Top 10, listened to the song sample, and sent it to the cart if the music seemed right to me. Took me 15 minutes to fill out a CD of my favorite songs!

Well, it's great if you live in America, but if you live elsewhere you're left with a half arsed, piece of SW. Living in the UK I selected the relevant site from the pop-up and immediately all of the available categories to search in diminished from pretty much everything to just 4. No electronics & Photo, no Home & Garden etc.

From what I can see I can add these in manually, but why make the user go through all of that? Isn't this app supposed to save people time? It'd be faster to fire up Safari and just go to Amazon.co.uk than sit there putting all of the categories in.

Please, either make it just US Centric and be done with it or give users from other countries the same level of functionality as that of US users. It can't be THAT hard, surely?

What's amazing to me is that the developer does not state up front that it is US-centric. Of course, we at MacUpdate can't inform our users of what we ourselves are not informed of.

As I understand it, your insinuation (Robby.is.on) is that since it's free, I have no complaint. I thought the idea of commenting etc. on MU was that feedback from users helped developers produce better quality apps. MU is full of hundreds of apps, which through comments and reviews have improved vastly - That's good for everyone, surely? If something isn't any good, or is of limited use, it's not changed by whether it is free or not. If this was anything other than free it would simply be even worse value for anyone not living in the US.

The developer could easily fix the issue by bothering to do whatever is necessary to add in the various categories for non-US Amazon sites. If there is a technical reason why this can't be done, then explaining it would at least help. As it is, it just looks half arsed and sloppy, which is a shame.

Of course, making suggestions is fine but the way you stated it ("half arsed, piece of SW", "It can't be THAT hard, surely?") made it look a bit like FSUES (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=FSUES) to me.

There's no entitlement as far as I am concerned - really. I've always commented on whether I thought it was any good or not. It clearly wasn't "that hard" since the dev has added more categories to the non US stores, and for me it was "half arsed" when I could only search a few categories - I couldn't have very well said that it was "complete". It really is that simple.

FWIW, the Dev has recently updated it and the added categories have now made it a very useful bit of SW for me (and Amazon's bank balance, no doubt). I appreciate the changes that have been made and never, frankly, have a problem paying for something that does the job if I have to so the fact that this is free is welcome.

I'm looking forward to see how this app evolves and would love to see it on iPhone since it is something that would be very handy there. I'd certainly have no problem paying for it if it appeared on the App Store.
