xMod free download for Mac

xMod1.5

02 June 2008

Modify hidden settings in Leopard (was LeopardMOD).

Overview

xMod allows users to modify the Leopard operating system's hidden settings, through a simple interface, thus avoiding the command line. xMod also has tools to perform vital system diagnostics.

Upgrades currently being worked on:

  • More dynamic previews.
  • Expansions of the Clean panel.
  • Even more great hidden settings!

In other news, I am working on a prototype Menubar application, tentatively called "Lil' xMod." If you would like to download the latest build, visit this link: geekpeaksoftware.com/Lil' xMod.zip

Please send me any feedback you have, to Suggestions@geekpeaksoftware.com

I am also working on a new panel for xMod, an iTunes panel. It would include automation scripts and a few hidden preferences. Good idea? Bad idea? Send your thoughts to Suggestions@geekpeaksoftware.com

What's new in xMod

Version 1.5: I have added two new panels: The iTunes panel (still small) and the Directory panel (very useful). In the FInder panel, there are also new dynamic previews and descriptions, though I will be adding more in the next version.

The most recent version was Intel Only, and that was a mistake. If anyone is having problems with that, just re-download it, it should be fixed now. It seems the new version of XCode has a new configuration setting....which I didn't know about. Oh well, it's working now. Thanks for your support and donations (all 3 of them)! I am sorry this update has taken so long, but school has been really demanding lately. A 12 year old developer can only accomplish so much in his time after school.

Great job Carter! I love the new version, the little icons that show the changes in the finder panel are very useful. The new iTunes panel is simple but fun. The directory has pointed me towards lots of great sites! The only things I would change would be adding more screenshots to the previews, and making it so that you didn't have to restart to change the menu bar color. Thanks for making it so easy to do lots of cool stuff to my Mac!

I advise everybody to try this software. Really special, the menu bar as white, as for Tiger. Has left me an excellent impression, as to the developers. 5 stars.

This application won't run on my QuickSilver DP 1 GHz G4, but I see nothing to indicate that it requires an Intel processor.

Tried that. As far as I can tell, there isn't one. But if someone knows what it's called, I'll add it...

Do you really need a reboot to change the menu bar? Perhaps you could just kill the menu bar process.

I would love to be able to run this program on my PPC mac. Any possibility that this dream can come true?

I had most of these done already via Terminal, but you did a great job giving them a GUI. You may want to allow a return to default for each individual mod. And perhaps add a screenshot or better description of what each one will do.

Sorry, previous version was MUCH more explicit to what the changes will look like. Great app anyway.

Good product. The dmg file should be much smaller. I repacked the dmg for 2.3 via EasyDMG. The new size is only 509KB compared with 14.5MB! Version 2.0 1MB Version 2.1 5MB Version 2.2 9MB Version 2.3 14.5MB Size increased terribly.Something wrong with the author's dmg creator

It would be nice, if the program could reverse any mod to the default choice. And it should be on 2 levels - one for all mods and one for each mod.

OMG this program rocks!!!! It's small, easy to use, and well done. Whoever designed this must have some REALLY smart friends. Like, REALLY smart. It must be made from Applescript, I only wish it could change those annoying blue dots on the doc! Nice job!

I love this little program! It's very small in size, and it controls a lot of critical parameters. It provided all the things I needed. I have an old G4 PB. Switching to 2-D dock made the dock A LOT faster. I love being able to see the full path in finder windows, etc., etc. Very nicely done.
