I'm not really a gamer but do love a tower defence game, Hordes of Orcs is a particularly good implementation, this and PVZ are my favorites.

IIRC, after 100 plays this will randomly occur. There's also a variation with Orcs dressed as Santa Claus. This occurs in December. I don't remember if there were other dates that had "special" Orcs :)

Very fun game. However, it take long for me to understand the system and exploit its weaknesses.

In most cases/games you can make the orcs run a zig of arrow towers on one half of the playing field (and then add fire towers, nuclear towers, etc. on the center line of the playing field, and mirror the zig zag on the other side of the playing field...then you can artificially 'trap' the orcs in this maze of zig zags by closing off on end of the zig zag with a wall, making the orcs turn around to head for the other exit. The once they get close to the other exit, you close up that exit (by first selling the wall that's blocking the other end).

Exploiting this flaw, I can beat all games on Impossible difficulty and can reach Wave 185 on Infinite on Open Warfare (at this point the orcs are simply way too fast and I can't properly close up the maze on one end without having some orcs leak out the other end.)

Still...anyone can attest that reaching Wave 185 is impressive and impossible without using the strategy I've provided.

I wouldn't call the switching-door-trick a weakness but rather a basic strategy offering different flavour of the game (a rather epic on if you have dozens of orcs each with 500000+ hit points at a speed of 70+). It's simple: If you want a clean man to orc fight - don't use the trick (not ranting - I really mean this). And for your orc running pleasures there are always the maze maps where the trick won't work.

Oh, great!

I had to go and read that and find out what i'm NOT doing! I was hoping somebody would post a big ole spoiler! )8^(

I find some of the variants uninteresting and tedious, but i was just about to have a look around to see how i was doing on Infinite Open Combat because i finally beat my old score by about 10,000 and got to level 168. Oh well.

That's a well-known strategy in tower defence games actually, it's called juggling. Most TD games have a limit on deleting towers in some way to prevent you from doing this very much.

I have owned this game for some time now. It's like the game of chess - simple in game play, high in strategy, and loads of fun. Well okay, not quite like chess since chess is nowhere near as much fun. Go ahead, get this game, lose yourself in fun for hours. I do. ... Denny Crane

How about a scenario editor?

After playing all the different modes, i've pretty much either figured out how to beat them, or they are impossible to survive, OR are the infinite modes and i've reached a maximum extent where bait and firepower aren't enough to keep them from escaping because of their speed.

Very addicting little game.

I've barely begun to explore all the variations and difficulty levels.

Graphics look great. I agree the background music could use a little more variety but it's not too intrusive.

Mostly i've not had stability problems, though once when i picked a particular resolution, the screen went black and didn't come back. I could hear sound but clicks and keys didn't have any effect. I had to restart the system.

3 things on my wish list:

-- Option of keeping open a small display of health of multiple orcs in addition to being able to click for details. (or perhaps an option to display a little number or % of their heads)

-- Ability to swing the view around as well as zooming in. (say option + mouse movement and scroll wheel perhaps?)

-- Choice of starting with different amounts of gold (my apologies if this is in some variations i haven't tried yet)

This is a slightly different game, yet strangely addictive, just striving for that better finish to your last game. It is hard, but with careful management, it is able to be beaten. The soundtrack is ok, but repeats a bit to much. Graphics are excellent, nice and sharp, looks great zoomed in!! All in all, a pretty groovy game.
