I tried the latest AdBlock, 1.24.0, and very strangely, it won’t even allow me to watch Videos on YouTube. So I went back to ABP. I'm on a 2010 Mac Pro in Mojave.

I'm still very confused as to why AdBlock changed their Version Numbers from Version: 2.36.2 to 1.24.0. Very Odd. I've been using ABP (Adblock Plus - STILL not listed here for some reason) for a while now because I was having problems lotsa with AdBlock. Recently I updated ABP and now on YouTube I’m constantly getting a little Notice before it Blocks an Ad asking me if I really wanna block it. The bloodsuckers at ABP obviously made a deal with YT and ABP is WORTHLESS now. So, I’m back to AdBlock. I just installed the newest version and hopefully they haven’t made a deal with YouTube too.

When I upgraded Safari security features, for some reason Ad Block Plus was removed. So I installed Ad Block. Unfortunately, Ad Block (NOT to be confused with Ad Block Plus) did NOT block a single ad. When I installed it dozens of ads immediately came thru. :( Fortunately, after I then reinstalled the new Ad Block Plus it worked well. Though, I miss the old ABP feature of showing you in red fast increasing numbers, how many ads it was removing. The new doesn't do this, though it does seem to take them out.

This doesn't do anything. There is the same if not more ads than before I downloaded it. Also I found this in the app preferences: Can read sensitive information from including passwords, phone numbers and credit cards on: ALL WEBPAGES

As far as I"m concerned, AdBlock's ability to block ANY HTML ELEMENT ON A PAGE was its best feature and greatest attraction. I"ve asked repeatedly if/when the functionality will reappear, and haven't received a satisfactory response, one way or the other, from customer support. (By the way... Anybody ever see another app that charges for a quick response from customer support? Considering that "AdBlock has been downloaded more than 250 million times and is used by more than 65 million people worldwide," you'd think the cheap whiner could afford to hire at least a second person!)

This is getting even more confusing.

There seems to be a NEW "Adblock 2.70.0 from betafish, inc" (as opposed to its name here at MU: "Safari Adblock") that's been released today. And it seems to work good in the latest Safari (in Sierra), so far.

But there is still an "Adblock 1.10.0 from Adblock" that is awful.

What concerns me is the Safari preference pane for this extension: ""AdBlock" can read, modify, and transmit content from all webpages. This could include sensitive information like past, phone numbers, and credit cards." !!! So you want to get rid of one vulnerability only to openly accept a much greater one?? Seems obtuse. I really don' know why Apple allows this. For one thing there are other extensions that do not have this warning....

I want to ask the community if there are downsides to using more than one ad-blocker. I'm currently using Ghostery, Adblock, Adblock Plus, and uBlock. There don't seem to be any conflicts but... What think you?

This Safari Extension sold to the company called betafish inc from Michael Gundlac. Besides, betafish inc does not understand real nature without having a company site. I was reduced to terrible waste.

It's a good extension that blocks online ads and popups. Safari without AdBlock is something like a car without doors. It's OK, but not as comfortable and safe as it can possibly be. If your browser is slow and it takes ages to load webpages, maybe the problem is lack of AdBlock. I think that installing this extension is extremely important for any Mac user.

AdBlock has chosen (once again) to mysteriously hide their changelog from easy access after very briefly making it available through a link via the options panel. I have very serious reservations on their commitment to user privacy and suddenly hiding the changelog again only exacerbates my concerns. Before you install this extension, I suggest you read this post I'll link to below on the AdBlock issues in which they are increasingly attempting to hide what their extension does. Considering this extension has access to every website you go to, I consider this a very serious issue to user privacy or worse. https://palant.de/2014/07/29/which-is-better-adblock-or-adblock-plus Use AdBlock at your own risk. I suggest you use 'Adblock Plus' (made by different developers) that keep the code open and vastly more transparent.

Beware of the experimental feature in the options! Enable it and I get the "wait" cursor for a couple minutes, CPU jumps to over 100% and Safari becomes unusable. Disable it and CPU drops waaay down and Safari acts normal (back to being slow but not completely unusable).

Adblock lacks proper, safe transparency for its updates. This is a huge problem for me considering the extreme privacy danger that extensions can cause users who can be victims of silently updated extensions with malicious attacks on privacy, etc. Extension can track every website you go to. Extensions can even record everything you type in your browser and report it to others. That includes emails, passwords, instant messages, bank account information, etc., etc. Unfortunately, the only way as of 4/22/2014 to find a sparse changelog of Adblock updates is by actually downloading the Adblock extension to your hard drive and taking it apart to find some release note hidden inside. Providing "what's new" is at least a way to track privacy changes, etc. within an extension. It at least provides a small amount of accountability to allow users to decide for themselves if they want to update a change in privacy policy or not on their own machines. Others and myself have repeatedly asked Adblock to change this confusing policy and have requested that the Adblock developers clearly show an easy to find changelog on their website. They continue to refuse to do this. Like most good Safari extension developers, Adblock used to provide a changelog on their website. They got rid of it and that's a problem.

Oh, it gets worse. The changes to Safari continue to occur with each reboot or even restart of the app. Do you think it is malware if the developer says he didn't mean it?

This is intolerable. The last two restarts I did, I was greeted with a donation solicitation page from this developer Michael. I then saw that my Safari toolbar, homepage and some preferences had been changed. Uninstalled and severely disapproved. BTW I did donate $20.00 in November when I installed.

Doesn't work too well on Mavericks - ads are showing and popping up quite often. I have to manually update filters several times a day to keeps ads away - it is a temporary solution though. I don't think it is updating filters what helps, I think that the AdBlock extension somehow "goes to sleep" and manually updating filters simply restores the functionality of the extension.

It kills all the ads. Can't live without this in any browser that's used daily. And, according to activity viewer, with adblock turned ON Safari uses less RAM, not more. I'd guess most anyone that had really negative things about this extension had a vested interest, like ad revenue they were missing because of it.

AdBlock has suddenly become corrupt! After years of happy AdBlocking this extension is now suddenly jamming page loading on most website with ads. Pages are typically locked for 10-15 secs (even beach ball shows up). This suddenly happened on all of our computers a couple of days ago. We have updated all filter lists, but to no improvement. The "AdBlock custom filters" seems to be ok, but switching on the "EasyList" immediately causes the problem above. It works. It will also grind your computer to a halt. My computer was slowing down so much it was driving me crazy. I traced the problem to AdBlock which was eating 1.5GB of my 4GB of RAM. Needless to say Adblock is now gone.

I just found out this extension is the reason why Safari eats up a lot of RAM after some browsing. Without this extension, if I close all the tabs, the process "Safari web content" will eventually disappear and all the RAM use released. Not true with this extension enabled! So after disabling this, I no longer have to deal with Safari web content process occupying up to over 1GB or RAM.

Still extremely unstable when visiting many sites (e.g., pcworld.com, perezhilton.com, etc.). With AdBlock enabled the "Safari Web Content" process will hog every last CPU cycle until Safari becomes (nearly) unresponsive - with AdBlock disabled these sites work fine and CPU usage never exceeds 15% on the oldest test machine (see below). I have replicated this behavior on a 2008 black Macbook, a 2010 Mac Pro (with 16 GB of RAM!) and a 2011 MacBook Air - all running OS X 10.7.2 and the latest versions of Safari (5.1.2 (7534.52.7)) and AdBlock (2.4.33). The Google Chrome version of this extension works quite well, but this Safari version is close to useless.

I like adblock but removing it seemed to increase my web browsing speed significantly. Also, while trying to uninstall it safari freezes and needs to be force quit. I think most ad blockers cause some performance hit, I am going to try to roll adblocker free for a while and check my web experience, I definitely prefer the faster web page loading times for now.
